My name is Carolyn Kay and I am the Exceptional Children's Cross Categorical teacher for grades 7 and 8 here at Swift Creek Middle School. I am certified to teach K-12 Special Education, Middle School Math and ELA, and Elementary Education. 

My husband Tim and I will celebrate 35 years of marriage this September. We have two sons, John and Bill. Both boys are Johnston County Public School graduates, a huge factor in their success! I also have 2 grandsons, Ronan and Briggs.

As a proud East Carolina University graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in University Studies, Pedagogy and Disability Studies, I believe that to address the needs of all students, including exceptional children, an educator must first identify, and secondly, understand the educational implications of those needs. To that end, I absolutely love incorporating technology into the classroom, as it provides a personalized learning experience for all children. It is my belief that this encourages student engagement and helps level the playing field for all students!
