Mrs. Carolyn Kay

Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Carolyn Kay

My name is Carolyn Kay and I am the Exceptional Children Cross Categorical teacher for grades 7 and 8 here at Swift Creek Middle School. I am certified to teach K-12 Special Education, Middle School Math and ELA, and Elementary Education. My husband Tim and I will celebrate 32 years of marriage this September. We have two boys, John and Bill. John is a business graduate from UNC-Greensboro working in Raleigh and Bill has an Associate Degree from JCC and will be attending Appalachian State. Both boys are Johnston County Public School graduates, a huge factor in their success!

As a proud East Carolina University graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in University Studies, Pedagogy and Disability Studies, I believe that to address the needs of all students, including exceptional children, an educator must first identify, and secondly, understand the educational implication of those needs. To that end, I absolutely love incorporating technology in the classroom, as it provides a personalized learning experience for all children. It is my belief that this encourages student engagement and helps level the playing field for all students!

In addition to classroom time, I will be holding tutoring sessions in the morning to assist if your child needs extra assistance. If your child will attend a morning tutoring session (currently Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:15 am), please complete the Google Permission Form at least one day in advance.

I am so excited to be working with your child in my 16th year with Johnston County Public Schools! Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

I look forward to a wonderful year! GO WOLVES!
