Ms. Kelly Katen

Welcome! I love teaching reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills and strategies to our English Language Learners. I have 19 years of experience in elementary education. My first years of teaching were in my home state of Connecticut working with kindergarten, second, and fifth grade students. Moving to North Carolina in 2006, I have taught fifth, fourth, third, and ELL (grades K-5) learners. I have a Bachelors of Science in Education and Psychology from Sacred Heart University, and a Masters of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language from Fairfield University. I have my certification in the Orton-Gillingham/Wilson reading approach and have studied at Columbia University in conjunction with Teacher's College Reading and Writing Project. I am a member of the TESOL International Organization and National Council of Teachers of English.
