Ms. Kelly Katen
Welcome! I love teaching reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills and strategies to our English Language Learners. I have 21 years of experience in elementary education. My first years of teaching were in my home state of Connecticut working with kindergarten, second, and fifth grade students. Moving to North Carolina in 2006, I have taught fifth, fourth, third, and ELL (grades K-5) learners. I have a Bachelors of Science in Education and Psychology from Sacred Heart University, and a Masters of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language from Fairfield University. I have my certification in the Orton-Gillingham/Wilson reading approach and have studied at Columbia University in conjunction with Teacher's College Reading and Writing Project. I am a member of the International Literacy Association (ILA), TESOL International Organization, and National Council of Teachers of English.

Johnston County Public Schools will hold a Virtual Job Fair on Wednesday, April 21. The event will be held in a Zoom Conference format from 2:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. Candidates will have the opportunity to meet with various school principals about career opportunities in each of the district’s 47 schools.
The online application for the Johnston County Public Schools Preschool Program is now available. Parents who are interested in the JCPS Preschool Program are encouraged to apply early, as availability is on a first come, first served basis. The application window closes on June 30th.
