Policy Change Update due to concerns about the COVID-19 virus:  Please note that effective March 18, 2020, the WJ Food Pantry will be moving away from a face-to-face shopping model.  In an effort to assist community distancing, we will be pre-packing boxes for clients.  Clients will be able to pick up their boxes in a drive-thru lane.

If you need additional information about the virus and its impacts, please go to the CDC website

Where: Portable Units (behind school in activity bus parking lot)

    When:   Wednesdays 3:30 - 4:45 p.m.  Summer hours are Wednesdays 6:00 - 7:20 p.m.

Who:  The WJ Food Pantry is open once a week to anyone in the Cleveland or McGee's Area in need of food. Customers are asked to complete a short survey and provide a state-issued photo id that has their current address, as well as provide report cards for dependents. An adult may shop for their partner and children attending school. However, adults cannot pick up food for other adults. For example, if you live in a household with your 23-year old daughter, she will have to register and shop for herself. If your brother has come to live with you and he is over 18-years old, he will have to register and shop for himself.

What: Each person/family may come weekly to choose items from our Food Pantry shopping list.  Patrons are asked to bring their own bags.

The list and quantity will vary each week depending on what food is available, however the following items are typically available: canned or bagged beans, rice, frozen and/or canned meat, peanut butter, canned fruit, fresh fruit, canned vegetables, fresh vegetables, deli bread, cheese, lunch meat and on occasion eggs and yogurt.

We conduct food drives throughout the year with the help of other clubs on campus. However, we are always in need of items and/or monetary donations. Checks can be made out to West Johnston High School c/o food pantry.

Thanks to the purchasing power of the Food Bank in Raleigh, every dollar you contribute purchases 5 pounds of food for a family in need.

In the fall, we make an additional community appeal to help stock the pantry–especially to help families over the holidays. To help, fill a grocery bag with grocery items and return it to the front office at West Johnston High. Any and all items are deeply appreciated.
