Ms. Sharon Bryant, Principal

I am excited and eager to serve as your new principal at Riverwood Middle School.  I come to RMS with a wealth of varied experiences and educational opportunities.  After receiving my English degree from Fayetteville State, I taught for three years at my alma mater, Union High School, in Sampson County.  Following this opportunity, I taught an additional three years at the Military Academy in the small town of Salemburg before making the move to Johnston County in 2003, where I taught at Cleveland Middle School for ten years.  There, my experiences as an educator allowed me to teach a variety of subjects such as English Language Arts, Math and Exceptional Children.  After earning my Masters in School Administration from NC State, I served as Assistant Principal at both Cleveland Middle School and Smithfield Middle School for another six years.  Most recently, I proudly served as principal and lead learner at West Smithfield Elementary.

I hold strong beliefs and values that all children can learn and grow academically, emotionally, and socially when provided with the right environment, internal and external systems of support for students and their families, and appropriate resources for teaching and learning.  As the instructional leader, I will   advocate for the needs of all students who are entrusted in our care.  In collaboration with the various stakeholders, we will plan professional development to grow and support leaders within the building, establish effective and efficient processes to maximize teaching and learning, and encourage continuous improvement as opportunities and challenges arise.  Our commitment in decision-making will be a consideration of multiple perspectives, use of qualitative and quantitative data, and the overall impact on the social-emotional well being of our students and student achievement.

Family is the foundation of my success. My dad is a retired truck driver and housing contractor and my mom is a retired registered nurse. My parents taught me the value of perseverance and hard work to achieve my goals.  My parents, sisters and I hold a core value of the importance of education.  My three sisters are in education:  one, a  principal in Philadelphia, two, a teacher at West View Elementary, and the youngest, a sophomore at ECU.  I have two sons, now successful adults, who are products of Johnston County Public Schools.  My oldest son is a member of the National Guard and a Data Analyst for Amazon. My youngest son is a car salesman at a Lexus dealership. As much as possible in our busy schedules, I spend time with my sons, parents, sisters, and my nephews and nieces.  When not with family, one can find me volunteering in the community, cycling, reading, traveling, and riding ATVs.

I look forward to the adventures ahead of us at Riverwood Middle School!

My name is Eric Waters. I will be the new Assistant Principal here at Riverwood Middle School this year. I am coming from North Johnston High School where I also served as Assistant Principal.  I am excited for this opportunity to join the Riverwood Middle community.

I am a graduate of Norfolk State University where I completed a B.S. Degree in Exercise Science. I began my teaching career in Lenoir County as a Health/Physical Education Teacher.  During this time I coached Football, Basketball, Baseball and Cross Country. I then transitioned from a Health/Physical Education Teacher to an Exceptional Children’s Teacher. In all, I have twenty-two years of educational experience with eighteen years in the classroom.

In 2013, I completed my master’s degree in School Administration from East Carolina University.  I felt that it was time to make more of an impact on students, so I decided to explore a career in School Administration.  This is what led me to Johnston County.

I currently reside in Goldsboro, N.C. with my wife, Tomekia and our two daughters, Jaiden and Taylor.  I enjoy meeting new people and watching sporting events.

I have been at Riverwood Middle as an Assistant Principal for 3 years going into my 4th year.  My father was my Principal K-12 grade so I swore I would never go into education.  As it would happen, I was laid off from my corporate job as Lead Information System Analysis, in 2003 so I turned to education.  I started out in JCPS in 2004 as a computer teacher at a local middle school. I then decided to follow in my father's footsteps and applied for the Principal Fellows program and earned my Master's degree from ECU. Prior to coming to Riverwood, I was an assistant Principal at the High School, Middle and Elementary levels.  Riverwood is a wonderful school and I look forward to serving the students/community this upcoming school year.

I will be the 6th grade administrator this year and look forward to working with the students, staff and families.  While 6th grade will be my primary grade level, we will collaborate as an administrative team for the benefit of the school family and I look forward to an exciting year ahead.

I am a Johnston County native and Smithfield-Selma High School graduate. I graduated with Honors from ECU with a degree in Special Education-General Curriculum with Reading K-12. My teaching experience includes five years at West Clayton Elementary, three years at Cleveland Middle and four years at Cleveland High.  I taught inclusion and resource in the elementary and middle school settings, self-contained Autism K-5, and High Functioning Autism 9-12. I completed my principal residency at Cooper Academy and earned my MSA from NCSU with the Johnston Principal Leadership Academy and am excited to begin this year as your Assistant Principal.

I believe that as humans, we exist to improve the world in which we live. Leaders in education, both born and made, are here to step up and facilitate healthy, innovative ways to discover this world. And, as educators, we are responsible for providing ongoing learning opportunities to the students, parents and our community through the school setting.  I will encourage people of all abilities to pursue their passions, find their purpose in our world and contribute to the overall good of society to leave their mark on our world.

Outside of the world of education, I am married to my high school sweetheart Jon for almost 20 years and we have three children. Karoline will be a freshman at Barton this fall and a member of the cheer team.  Zeke is an avid fisherman and will be a junior at Cleveland High School. Noah plays travel baseball with the Canes and will be entering 6th grade at Innovation Academy.  I spend any free time with my family attending games and cheering from the sidelines or camping at the beach or in the mountains.

Please feel free to connect with me through my Virtual Office.
