Mr. David West, Principal

Welcome to Riverwood Middle School. I am David West and I serve as principal. I am a long time educator and have had the opportunity to be a part of the Johnston County Public School System since 2010. I began my career as a middle school teacher at Norwayne Middle School in Wayne County and then moved on to Charles B. Aycock High School. I taught Math in both schools and actually attended both as a student before graduating from Aycock. I coached football and basketball on the middle school level and football, basketball, and softball in high school.

When I arrived in JCPS, I served as assistant principal and later as principal of North Johnston High School before taking on the role of Operation Director for the last two years.

A graduate of East Carolina University with a degree in Middle School Math and Social Studies, I am certified to teach math in grades 6-12 and Social Studies in grades 6-9. I received my Masters Degree in School Administration from Western Carolina University in 2010.

My wife, Tami, and I have 3 sons and a daughter along with 3 grandsons and two granddaughters.

I love to read. I try to walk a few miles everyday and I enjoy working in my yard in my spare time. My personal motto is Passion + Purpose = Power.

It is truly an honor to serve as principal of Riverwood Middle School and I am blessed to be part of this learning community.

Mr. Eric Waters, Assistant Principal

My name is Eric Waters. I will be the new Assistant Principal here at Riverwood Middle School this year. I am coming from North Johnston High School where I also served as Assistant Principal.  I am excited for this opportunity to join the Riverwood Middle community.

I am a graduate of Norfolk State University where I completed a B.S. Degree in Exercise Science. I began my teaching career in Lenoir County as a Health/Physical Education Teacher.  During this time I coached Football, Basketball, Baseball and Cross Country. I then transitioned from a Health/Physical Education Teacher to an Exceptional Children’s Teacher. In all, I have twenty-two years of educational experience with eighteen years in the classroom.

In 2013, I completed my master’s degree in School Administration from East Carolina University.  I felt that it was time to make more of an impact on students, so I decided to explore a career in School Administration.  This is what led me to Johnston County.

I currently reside in Goldsboro, N.C. with my wife, Tomekia and our two daughters, Jaiden and Taylor.  I enjoy meeting new people and watching sporting events.

I was originally in cooperate America as a lead information system analysis for a rehabilitation company named Healthsouth. After company layoffs I came to Johnston county in 2004 as a computer teacher. I've worked in a variety of school settings.  This is my third year serving Riverwood Middle School as an Assistant Principal. I look forward to working with the Riverwood community.
