Bachelor of Music in Education Certification: Music k-12

Mrs. Dolores J. Barrett

I am very much looking forward to what the 2020-2021 school year has in store for the Johnston County Public Schools system.  I am very proud to be a member of the "SSS Spartan Family," ("Once a Spartan, Always a Spartan!"), as I begin my 22nd year of teaching at Smithfield-Selma High School.

I am a 1980 graduate of Youngstown State University, located in Youngstown, Ohio.  I hold a Bachelor of Music in Education degree from the Dana School of Music, with my certification area being Music k-12. Upon my graduation from YSU, I taught Instrumental Music at Cardinal Mooney High School, also located in Youngstown.  I am a very proud veteran, having served on active duty in both the United States Air Force and the United States Navy. While serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, I received training in the field of Electronics, and have had many opportunities to travel stateside, as well as overseas.  I reentered the field of Education in 1999, during which time I began teaching Vocal Music at SSS.  In addition to Vocal Music, I also teach Music Appreciation classes, and am an instructor for Distance Learning Lab (Connexus Links, previously referred to as GradPoint) courses. (These courses are titled Study Hall on students' schedules.)
