Degrees and Certifications:
Bachelor of Music in Education Certification: Music K-12
Mrs. Dolores J. Barrett
I am very much looking forward to what the 2022-2023 school year has in store for the Johnston County Public Schools system. I am very proud to be a member of the "SSS Spartan Family," ("Once a Spartan, Always a Spartan!"), as I begin my 24th year of teaching at Smithfield-Selma High School.
I am a 1980 graduate of Youngstown State University, located in Youngstown, Ohio. I hold a Bachelor of Music in Education degree from the Dana School of Music, with my certification area being Music K-12. Upon my graduation from YSU, I taught Instrumental Music at Cardinal Mooney High School, also located in Youngstown. I am a very proud veteran, having served on active duty in both the United States Air Force and the United States Navy. While serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, I received training in the field of Electronics, and have had many opportunities to travel stateside, as well as overseas. I reentered the field of Education in 1999, during which time I began teaching Vocal Music at SSS. In addition to Vocal Music, I also teach Music Appreciation classes, and am an instructor for Distance Learning Lab courses. (These courses are listed as Study Hall on students' schedules.)
At the November Regular Session Board of Education meeting, the Board voted unanimously to improve safety and security in Johnston County Public Schools by implementing state-of-the-art security systems in each of the district’s schools.
We hope that you and your student have already noticed some of the exciting new food and meal opportunities we are offering in our cafeterias this school year. Our new options will include more fresh produce, vegetarian options, and opportunities for students to customize their meal choice. These new offerings will be available at both breakfast and lunch.
