Mrs. Deanne Mertz

Welcome to the Home of the Spartans!

My name is Deanne Mertz and I have been an English teacher for the past 16 years. While many of my years were spent in middle school, I have been with SSS for the past six years. This past year was my first year as Leadership Chair. Next year I will be teaching English III and IV. I will also sponsor the crochet club.

I relocated to Wendell in 2012 from Fort Myers, Florida where I lived for 10 years. I was born and raised in Lancaster County, Pa. I grew up in the middle of Amish County and was a 1993 graduate of Conestoga Valley High School. I went on to attend West Chester University outside of Philadelphia where I graduated with a bachelor's in English. I was a news reporter for a few years until I stepped foot into the classroom- where I have found my home and continue to believe that our future leaders are sitting in my class.

  • Updated Social Distancing Procedures

Information on social distancing in school settings has been recently updated by the NC Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS). Upon receiving information from the NCDHHS, we consulted with the Johnston County Public Health Department on the impact these updates will have on our school system. This ongoing collaboration continues to guide our decision-making as students return to classrooms for in-person instruction.
