Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Melissa Hurst, Principal
Welcome to Princeton Elementary, Home of the Bulldogs!
I’m Melissa Hurst, the new principal and lead learner at Princeton Elementary School.
I am a Johnston County native and have lived here all my life. After graduating from Clayton High School, I attended NC State as a NC Teaching Fellow. I began teaching right down the road at North Johnston Middle and later North Johnston High School. Over the past twenty years, I have had the opportunity to learn and serve in a variety of places, including across the state as an instructional coach with the NC Department of Public Instruction and as a school and district administrator in Wake County.
My husband, Marty and I live in the Cleveland community with our eight year old twins, Emily and Andrew. We love to travel, play board games, and just spend time together.
I am honored to be back with Johnston County Public Schools and to be a part of fulfilling the vision of JoCo 2020. Together, we will continue to make Princeton a school where every student is safe, loved and valued, where students and teachers love learning, and where students build the knowledge, behaviors, and skills to become lifelong learners.
I look forward to working with our wonderful students, parents, and community. If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call, email, or stop by.
Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Jessi Gurley, Assistant Principal
Welcome to Princeton Elementary School! My name is Jessi Gurley and I am the assistant principal at Princeton Elementary School. I am a graduate of Smithfield Selma Senior High School. Go Spartans! I have worked in the Johnston County Public School System for 25 years. I began my career at Benson Elementary School and won Johnston County First Year Teacher of the Year that year. I taught at Benson Elementary for 2 years and loved it there. Next, I had the opportunity to move to Princeton School and teach in my hometown. It was a wonderful move because I was at the same school as my children until they graduated high school. (They may have another opinion.) They both participated in sports so I became a true, blue Bulldog! I moved to Princeton Elementary School when it opened in 2007. I have taught kindergarten, second, third, and fifth grades and have served as a Curriculum Coach. This is my third year as assistant principal in the community that I love.
As I mentioned before, I live in Princeton. I have been married to Carl Gurley III for 35 years. We have two sons, Robert and Hunter. They are both married and have children. I have six grandchildren, so sometimes my name is GiGi. We live on a farm and have cows and horses. In my free time, I love to spend time with my family, read, listen to music, and go to the beach.
I am so excited about some of the things going on in our county and at our school. We are focusing on building relationships, making our school experiences relevant, and being innovative. You can find out information about our school through Facebook, Twitter, and DoJo. I can't wait to see what great things that Princeton Elementary accomplishes this year. If I can help you in anyway, please let me know.
