    What is the school store?

    The Clayton Corner is a small business created by Mrs. Lee (4th grade teacher) with the help of fourth and fifth grade students. We sell school supplies and fun items that kids want to buy. Products range in price from $0.25-$2.00. Items include pencil grips, pencils, erasers, pencil sharpeners, key chains, bookmarks, slime, and more!


    When is it open?

    The school store is open during arrival time (8:20-8:50 am) every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday morning.


    Who can shop?

    Everyone!


    Why do we have a school store?

    Our school store empowers and educates students in entrepreneurship and financial literacy. Students are exposed to the workings of a real business. The profits from our sales are kept by the PTA and go to help improve the school and fund business costs like ordering products. Last year was our first year and we made approximately $2,500 for our school!


    How does it operate?

    The store launched in the fall of the 2016-2017 school year. It started with a select group of fourth graders. Now, fourth and fifth grade students are invited to go through a hiring process including applying and interviewing for sales clerk positions in the store. Once selected, “employees” receive a work schedule and are required to arrive at school no later than 8:05am on the days they are scheduled. Students are responsible for the complete operation of the store. This includes tasks such as stocking and ordering products, straightening and organizing displays, engaging customers and assisting them in shopping, calculating a customer’s sale, counting money, and calculating a customer’s change. Mrs. Lee facilitates all activities, while parent volunteers help oversee students during store operation and ensure proper money handling.
