Mrs. Jennifer N. Johnson
Welcome to 6th Grade! My name is Jennifer Johnson and I teach 6th grade English/Language Arts and AVID elective classes. I moved to North Carolina in 2016 from Oklahoma. I graduated from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma in 1997 with a Bachelors of Art in Special Education. I completed my Master of Education degree at Northeastern State University in 2005. Spring Arts Night on May 3, 2022
Our Spring Arts Night will be held on Tuesday, March 3rd. Come out to see our band, chorus, general music, and jazz band students perform! Artwork will also be on display. We encourage each family to have only two attendees at the performance for seating capacity.

Athletic Award Ceremony which will be on Thursday, May 5, at 6 PM in the school gym. Athletes and their families are invited.

Smithfield Middle To Offer Saturday Academy
Smithfield Middle School is excited to offer a Saturday Academy opportunity for our students prior to End of Grade testing. ย Saturday Academy will provide students an additional opportunity to receive support in sixth through eighth grade reading and math. In addition, eighth grade students will receive additional support in science.

The three-time, state-recognized, award-winning Literary Magazine, entitled Diverse Universe, will be for sale thru April 8th.

5th Grade Family Night
Smithfield Middle Fifth Grade Family Night will be on Tuesday, April 5th from 6:00-7:30. Learn more about our daily school operations, athletics, band, chorus, and how students can have a successful transition to middle school.

Cultural Family Night
Cultural Family Night will be held on Tuesday, March 5th. Families will be exposed to different cultures as well as AVID WICOR strategies and the IB Learner Profile Attributes. Community organizations will also be present for this event.

Healthy Wellness Informational Night
Smithfield Middle School will host local community agencies such as Hope Services, Alliance, Pathways, Easter Seals ,Pride and Dr. Allen, JCPS Executive Directorย of SEL for a Healthy Wellness Informationalย Night. This event will be Tuesday, February 22, 2022 from 6:00-7:30 PM

Calling all submissions for the Literary Magazine!
The Smithfield Middle Literary Magazine is a collection of art, poetry, writing, drawings, and works created for students by students. Our team of students is looking for any art or poetryย that is your own creation to add to our publication.

CASE Administration 2
Beginning Wednesday, December 8th students will take their CASE assessments which helps teachers understand how students are progressing towards grade level standards. The reading assessment will be administered on Wednesday, December 8th. The math assessment will be administered on Thursday, December 9th. The Grade 8 Science assessment will be administered on Friday, December 10th.

Information Night for High School Choice Application Programs for the 2022-2023 School Year
Information Night for High School Choice Application Programs for the 2022-2023 school year will be held virtually from 5:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, November 30th for our 8th grade families. Families will be able to virtually explore the booths beginning at 5:00 PM, and a live stream presentation from the Choice Program coordinators will begin around 5:30 PM.

JCPS to Utilize New Website for Bus Updates
Our district is launching a new portion of our website to further communicate bus delays and replacements with our families. We encourage those who have a student who utilizes our transportation to get to or from school to visit www.johnston.k12.nc.us/busdelays for updates on our school bus routes beginning Tuesday, January 18.

The Johnston County Board of Education voted unanimously to approve the 2022 Johnston County Public Schools salary schedule at their regularly scheduled Dec. 14 meeting.
