BA in History-North Carolina State University

Mr. Dennis Draughon

Welcome to the 2022-2023 School Year! This is my 12th year of teaching here at SMS, but only my second year teaching the 7th grade curriculum. I look forward to exploring European history with all of my new 7th Grade students!

For the first quarter we will be learning about the fundamentals of social studies, like the difference between primary and secondary sources and how to read maps! We'll also learn about the different forms of government and the different economic systems that governments sometimes use. Then we will start to learn about the history of Europe from the time of the Renaissance and the Age of Exploration!

As the year progresses, we will learn about the Enlightenment and the Scientific Revolution, the French Revolution, and others. We will see how the world became industrialized and how nations fought to establish empires! We will learn about the two World Wars and how they helped to create the world we live in today.

I'm excited about helping you discover this new information, and I hope it will help you have a better understanding of your world and where you fit in it.
