Hello! I am Mrs. McKay and I am happy to have your child in my class this year. This will be my 1st year teaching 3rd grade here at South Smithfield. However, I have worked at SSE for the last 6 years working with students from PreK- 5th grade.
I am originally from NY and moved to NC in 2014.
I recently graduated from ECU with a master’s degree in School Administration. GO PIRATES!

Each grade level will have their own designated time to hear from their child's teachers, learn about parent expectations to help with virtual learning and ask any questions you may have. This is a great opportunity to chat with your child's teacher in a virtual setting!
Our school counselors here at South Smithfield Elementary, Ms. April Gibson (K-2) and Ms. Jennifer Whitlock (3-5) have an abundance of resources available to help students, parents and famliies during this time. They have created their own website with a virtual classroom, activities and resources.
South Smithfield Elementary will open for curbside service for meal pickups on August 17th. The lunch service time is 11:00am-12:00 pm Monday through Friday
As the school year comes to a close, please note that JCPS meal service will now operate at 9 sites during the summer months, rather than the previous 14. Summer meal service will begin Monday, June 1. Curbside meals will be served Monday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Benson Middle, Clayton Middle, Four Oaks Elementary, North Johnston Middle, Princeton Elementary, Selma Elementary, Smithfield-Selma High, West Clayton Elementary, and West Smithfield Elementary.
Attention parents of 4-year-olds: Are you interested in your child attending a free preschool program? The NC PreK program is designed to provide 4-year-old children with positive early learning experiences that support their development and prepare them for Kindergarten.
