Mrs. Mary Mennella
My name is Mary Mennella and I have been teaching here at West Johnston High School since 2008.
I am a Family and Consumer Science Teacher teaching Interior Design 1, Interior Design 2 and Fashion Merchandising classes where I feel very fortunate to be spending my days teaching such enthusiastic and fun young people as they learn more about Family and Consumer Science objectives.
I graduated from Campbell University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Family and Consumer Science in 2001. Wanting to give my students my very best I went back to school which I just graduated in May 2017 from South Dakota State University. I received my Master’s in Human Science with the Specialization in Family and Consumer Science Education.
I have been the Adviser for FCCLA, which is the club for Family and Consumer Science students for the past 10 years. I look forward to many more great moments with FCCLA helping others.
I am committed to providing my students with exciting projects where they can show what they have learned and apply it to a project using 21st Century work skills. I believe students can work as teams and enjoy the class as they learn about the objectives.
My favorite moment is seeing a student discover something new as we learn about that objective. Also seeing the students work together on a project and take responsibility for their project where they are being creative as a team.
I am very thankful for being able to teach at West Johnston High School and to be teaching Family and Consumer Science classes with great students and wonderful staff.
And finally, when I am not at school… I am a wife, mother and grandmother which I love very much. I love to travel, ride bikes, plant flowers and spending lots of time with my family making memories.
I look forward to a great year with you and thank you for being in my class.
