Mr. Tol Avery

Mr. Tol Avery comes to North Johnston following three years as principal at Four Oaks Middle School.

Mr. Avery, who is originally from Four Oaks, graduated from South Johnston High School in 1979. He attended North Carolina State University from 1979-1982 on a football scholarship.

In 1983, he signed with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League and later played with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Mr. Avery joined the U.S. Army in 1984 to begin a 20-year military career that included serving with the 7th Armored Division. While in the Army, he was assigned to the University of Houston as a military science instructor and taught as a teaching fellow in the Health and Human Performance Department.

During his assignment at the University of Houston, Avery received a bachelor’s degree from Texas Southern University. He earned his master’s degree in physical education from the University of Houston in 2004 and added a license in administration from East Carolina University in 2009.

He took a job at Clayton High School in 2009 where he taught physical education along with coaching football and basketball. While at Clayton, he was named Johnston County’s first-year Teacher of the Year.

He began a six-year stint in 2010 serving as assistant principal at South Johnston High School before being assigned to Four Oaks Middle. While at South Johnston, he was named Johnston County Assistant Principal of the Year.

Mr. Avery is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in educational leadership from Fayetteville State University.

He lives in Clayton and has three grown daughters including Tanita Avery, 28, and 21-year-old twins Aaliyah and Alysha Avery.

Mrs. Shannon Sellers

Mrs. Sellers has been in education for over 20 years with the majority of her time spent in Johnston County.  She was an English teacher for 12 years and has been an administrator for 9 years.

Mrs. Sellers lives close by with her husband, Anthony and son, Scott.  She also has two daughters, Katlyn and Katelynn.  Katlyn is a Panther, Alum and currently lives in SC.  Katelynn lives in Clayton.

Mr. Jake McAllister

Mr. McAllister is a Johnston County native from Clayton, NC. He holds bachelor's and master’s degrees in music education and master's in school administration from East Carolina University. Mr. McAllister has served at several schools throughout Johnston County as a teacher and administrator. He began his career as director of bands at Princeton High School and Clayton High School. Mr. McAllister finds himself at home here at North Johnston following administrative assignments at Smithfield-Selma and Cleveland High Schools. He is currently working on his doctorate in educational leadership.

Mr. McAllister is a veteran of the armed forces. He served for more than a decade in the North Carolina Army National Guard and the United States Army. Mr. McAllister had the privilege of serving as an Army musician before transferring to the Joint Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg, NC. Currently, he serves as a United States Coast Guard Reserve officer with assignments including emergency management, southwest border operations, and facility inspections.  

Bringing more than fifteen years of leadership and education experience, Mr. McAllister is thrilled to be a part of the Panther family. He is passionate about the opportunity to serve a school and community rich in tradition.
