Degrees and Certifications:
Miss Laura Donadio
Hello! My name is Laura Donadio and I will be a second grade teacher for the upcoming 2017-2018 school year! I have had the wonderful opportunity to teach first grade, third grade, and fifth grade students and I am looking very forward to working with second graders this year!
I will be starting my twelfth year teaching in the classroom. I began my career in Ohio (where I was born and raised) as a teaching assistant in a Head Start Preschool program. I then decided I wanted to teach in elementary school and there were very few jobs available at that time in Ohio. I was ready for a move, so I researched and found that North Carolina was in need of teachers, so I made the move in 2007 and began teaching third grade at Four Oaks Elementary. I worked there for four years, then was presented with the opportunity to teach fifth grade students at Selma Elementary. I taught there for 2 years and felt a calling to move back to the midwest to be near family. So I taught in Indiana for 3 years in first grade and absolutely adored working with 6 and 7 year olds, but desperately missed North Carolina. God works in mysterious ways and a first grade position opened up at West Clayton Elementary for the end of the 2016 school year. I accepted the position and taught first grade for the 2016-17 school year also. And now, a new opportunity has arisen to teach second graders and I am so excited to start this new chapter of my life and career!
As a teacher, I believe in allowing students flexibility in their learning, while also holding them to high expectations. I set high expectations at the beginning, and hold the students to these expectations throughout the school year. I am not opposed to students standing at their seat if they need to, or working with a clipboard on the floor if that works better for them. I use Classdojo as my behavior management system. It is an online system where each child gets their own monster and can earn positives and negatives throughout the day. Each parent has the opportunity to connect online through their smartphone. This acts as an instant messaging system where I can communicate with parents throughout the day if need be. I has been very successful in the past and the students really respond well to it!
I'm looking forward to an exciting start in a new grade next year!!
