Mrs. Jennifer Welch
Hi! My name is Jennifer Welch, and I'm excited to be your child's teacher this school year. I will be teaching math and science, and Mrs. Leslie Smith will be your child's ELA and social studies teacher. This is my first year at River Dell Elementary, and my 6th year teaching in Johnston County. In additon to 4th grade I have taught K, 1st, and 2nd grades, and have 11 years of teaching experience. I also have my AIG credentials.
My husband, Jason, and I are both from FL and attended Florida State University together. We moved to Clayton in 2011 from Savannah, GA. We have two girls - Peyton is in 8th grade, and Taylor is in 3rd grade. Our two black labs, Jeb and Jackson, complete our crew. Our girls are both very active with softball, and we love watching them play.
Odds & Ends: My favorite color is red, and I love to read! I collect things with anchors and arrows. I love monograms, and mason jars. The mountains are my favorite place to visit, and our family loves camping and spending time outdoors. We also love sports, and playing with the dogs.
My classroom is my "happy place", and I'm looking forward to a fun and fabulous school year! Go Racers!

This year for our 3-5 STEM Night we would like to invite our wonderful community of Scientists, Engineers, Mathematicians, and Technology Professionals into our school to present their knowledge, talents, and/or careers to our upper grade students and their families. We are in search of any River Dell Families or Friends of our school community that may have a willingness to volunteer about 2 hours in the evening on March 28th to share their passion/career in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math with our upper grade students. Our Art Teacher, Mrs. Anayiotos, needs our help. She would like to do a Kindness project. The kids will paint rocks with words of kindness. The painted rocks will be placed in a Kindness garden. She needs smooth rocks (at least 1 side needs to be smooth), cans of white paint (used to paint the rocks before the kids paint them), and cans of clear sealer. Thank you for your support!
SGA is selling candy February 11th and 12th for $.50. Candy includes fun size Skittles, M&M's, and Fun Dip. Carnations will be on sale February 13th and 14th. Carnations cost $1.00. All extras will be on sale Friday, February 15th. The sale will take place in the front lobby from 8:30-8:55 a.m. All money raised will go towards our Rise Against Hunger event at the end of the year.
A parent information session will be held on Thursday, February 21st from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. We would like to give parents an update on the progress of our school and address our goals for moving forward into next year. We would also like to give our parents an opportunity to give feedback on what you view as the biggest challenges facing our school and suggestions on how to improve our school to be the best we can be. We will have childcare provided for this event and we would love to have a big crowd.
