Mrs. Emily Shelton
Hi! My name is Mrs. Shelton. This is my sixth year of teaching Project Lead the Way and before that I was a teacher's assistant. I have two degrees from Barton College in Mass Communications and Political Science. I completed coursework at Harvard University and I earned my graduate certificate in Middle and Secondary teaching with a concentration in Career and Technical Education from Appalachian State University. I love teaching at Selma Middle School and enjoy coming to work every day. My goal is to equip each of my students with the tools they need to pursue college and career after high school. Whether students want to be a mechanic or an astronaut I will encourage them and show them the path they need to follow to reach their goals.
I have been married for 10 years and have two beautiful sons ages 5 and 8 months! We live in West Smithfield and love life in Johnston County. I enjoy reading, gardening and spending time with my family!

New guidance given to schools in the Strong Schools NC Public Health toolkit states that daily temperature and symptom screening questions prior to entry are no longer required. We will no longer screen individuals who enter JCPS facilities for COVID-19 symptoms. This begins on Monday, April 5 for all staff and on Monday, April 12 for students upon their return from spring break.
At a special called session on March 22, the Johnston County Board of Education voted to return students in grades 6-12 on Plan A. Effective April 12, any student who is currently receiving face-to-face instruction will attend every day except Wednesdays, which will continue to be used for deep cleaning and sanitizing.
The online application for the Johnston County Public Schools Preschool Program is now available. Parents who are interested in the JCPS Preschool Program are encouraged to apply early, as availability is on a first come, first served basis. The application window closes on June 30th.
