Dawn Bonner

Welcome back students!  I am looking forward to a great year--however weird it might be!  The 2020-2021 school year will be my third year on the Riverwood 8th grade team, my 12th year teaching and my 8th year in Johnston County!  I am originally from Virginia, but moved to NC to attend NCSU.  I received a bachelor's degree from NCSU, and then pursued a master's degree from UNC-CH.  (I pledge my allegance to NCSU!) I have been married to my wonderful husband, Peter, for over 29 years.  We have two sons, both in the Army and both married to wonderful young ladies.  I teach 8th grade ELA and ENG 1 and I absolutely love it! I am a new Grandma as of October 2019!

ELA and ENG 1 classes will meet daily via a google meet.  ELA will meet at 11:20 each day, and ENG 1 will meet at 12:45. You should join my google classroom to participate in those daily sessions and to get assignments and materials that will be posted daily.  I will send the link daily to join those meetings. You should also join my Remind (a phone app that allows me to send reminder messages to the class without sharing our phone numbers).   Please join the classes listed below based on your schedule.

  • What is happening in Mrs. Bonner's 8th Classes?

The Johnston County English Department has adopted curriculum called My Perspectives. Using that curriculum, we will study and practice many literary skills, academic and concept vocabulary, writing, and grammar.   I am excited about working with each of you and look forward to meeting you all in person someday!

The first week of classes will be geared toward us getting to know each other and then being sure you know how to access my class meetings and our textbook.  If you have any questions, please email me and I will gladly help however I can.

  • Complete the Second Semester Choice Form

Every JCPS parent must fill out the Second Semester Choice form to choose either the Virtual Program OR face-to-face instruction for each of their students. The Second Semester Choice form is to be filled out for ALL students in grades PreK-12. If a child is going to participate in face-to-face instruction for the second semester, the parent will be asked to fill out transportation information for the student in the form. A form for each student should be completed by Nov. 30.

  • Updated Social Distancing Procedures

Information on social distancing in school settings has been recently updated by the NC Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS). Upon receiving information from the NCDHHS, we consulted with the Johnston County Public Health Department on the impact these updates will have on our school system. This ongoing collaboration continues to guide our decision-making as students return to classrooms for in-person instruction.
