Miss Ashley Hawkins
Welcome to Ms. Hawkins Science Class. I am very excited about the upcoming year. Let me take a minute to introduce myself. This year will be my 6th year teaching here at Selma Middle School and I love it. I was born in Florida, lived in South Carolina, and moved to North Carolina 15 years ago. I can´t see myself living anywhere else.
I attended Coastal Carolina University, in South Carolina, where I earned my B.S. in Biology. I loved attending CCU...go Chantacleers!!! Coastal is located near Myrtle Beach which afforded me many opportunities to take classes exploring the marshes and oceans nearby. After moving to North Carolina I realized that I really wanted to be a teacher. I was on a mission to make this happen. I was accepted into the NC INSPIRE Fellows Program which helps people become lateral entry teachers. I began to persue my masterś degree in teaching. I graduated from East Carolina University in 2015 with a M.A. in Teaching.
As much as I love teaching, I do have other interests :) I love my pets, and I do have a lot of them. I have two cats, two dogs, two parakeets, one bearded dragon, and four chickens to round out the bunch. Needless to say I have a full house. When Iḿ not taking care of my zoo I enjoy going out and about. I love exploring the area whether that is going for a hike or going out to dinner at a new restaraunt. I did get engaged at the beginning of 2017 and will be getting married October of 2018 so my name will be changing...Yay!! I will soon be Mrs. Borland.
I am looking foward to teaching the new 8th graders!

Here is a copy of the 8th Grade Supply List. In the first week or so of school we are going to be focusing on getting to know each other, learning our science safety rules, and reviewing the scientific method. We will have a safety quiz at the end of this introductory lesson.
Parents: Please make sure you and your child sign the safety contract that you received in your first day packet of papers. Your child will not be able to participate in labs until I receive this back signed.
PowerSchool Parent Portal is more powerful than ever before. Now with Parent Portal parents can begin the registration process, check their child’s grades, update emergency information, and keep up with the teacher’s classroom lessons and assignments from their smartphone or computer...
