Mrs. Debbie Buchanan
Hello! I am looking forward to teaching 6th grade English Language Arts this year at Swift Creek. I am so excited to meet my students. A little about me, I am originally from Missouri where I went to college at Southeast Missouri State University and graduated with a degree in elementary education. I married my husband Brian a few months after I graduated college and moved to Illinois. We lived in Illinois for a little over a year and then my husband was transferred to North Carolina with his job. We have lived in Clayton since 1991. This will be my 29th year of teaching (all in Johnston County). I started out my career in elementary schools and have taught at several schools in the county (Clayton Elementary, Cooper Elementary, East Clayton Elementary, Riverwood Elementary). In 2012, I graduated with a Masters of Education in Reading (K-12) from Meredith College. Six years ago, I decided I needed a change and I began teaching middle school. I taught 7th grade English Language Arts at Riverwood Middle School and transferred to Swift Creek Middle when it opened and taught 6th grade. I have taught 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th grades and student taught 4th grade. I am very excited about teaching 6th grade and I feel so grateful to be a part of Swift Creek Middle School. Go Wolves!!!!!

The Johnston County Board of Education voted to return all Pre-K and EC-Self Contained students to Plan B, four days per week, beginning on Tuesday, Jan. 19. These students will participate in face-to-face instruction on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, with Wednesday serving as a remote learning day. All other students in grades K-12 will remain on Plan C until Monday, Feb. 1.
Due to Johnston County being designated a “red” county by the NCDHHS, as well as increased quarantines and COVID cases in the school district as reflected on our dashboard, the Johnston County Board of Education voted to have ALL students, including Pre-K and EC self contained, return to remote learning under Plan C, beginning Monday, December 14 through Friday, January 15. Unless the remote learning period is extended beyond January 15th, students will return to the plan that they chose on the Second Semester Choice form on Tuesday, January 19.
On December 8th 2020, the Johnston County School Board of Education voted to return to Plan C (Remote Learning), we would like to provide an update to parents and guardians of options to complete state-mandated End-of-Course (EOC) and Career/Technical Education Post Assessment testing.
