LiAnn Cheong
This will be my eleventh year teaching in Riverwood Elementary. I've had the privilege of working with amazing children each and every year, all of whom have left an indelible impression on my life. I'm looking forward to the upcoming year!
I was born in Singapore and completed my LLB in Nottingham, UK where I lived for 4 years. I then practiced law in Singapore before moving to the US in 2006, when my husband's job brought him to this part of the world. I began my foray into teaching as a substitute teacher, then as a teaching assistant. Being in the classroom made me realize that teaching special education in particular is my passion; and that what I really want to do is to make a difference in the lives of the children who need the most help and support. I completed my Masters of Arts in Teaching in December 2014 at WCU.
I’ve been happily married to my best friend for more than 20 years and have 2 wonderful children, now 21 & 19. My son is serving in the Air Force and my daughter is starting in her final semester of college in UNC Chapel Hill. My furry (and scaly family) extended family consists of 1 1/2 dogs, 2 cats and a bearded dragon.

ACCESS testing for English Language Learners
North Carolina schools are required to administer ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 to all students identified as English Learners (ELs) in the spring of each year to determine their progress in learning English. Each student is tested in four areas: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. This assessment helps us monitor their English language development.
