Mrs. Erin Haskins

WELCOME TO MRS. HASKINS' HOUNDS!!!

Hi! My name is Erin Haskins and I love being a part of the Riverwood Elementary "family"!  I am originally from southern Virginia.  My husband, our two girls and I made Clayton our new home 12 years ago.  My oldest daughter is a sophomore at NC State (Go Pack!) and my youngest is a junior at Clayton High School (Go Comets!)!

I'm entering my twenty-fourth year of teaching.  I'm thrilled to be teaching your child in second grade this year!  My past experience includes teaching kindergarten through third grade.  I was also our school's Literacy Support Coach seven years ago.  I hold a master's degree in Literacy and you'll learn that teaching reading is my passion!

I'm very excited to have your child as a part of my class this year.  We're going to have a great time learning, exploring, and enjoying being a part of our own second grade "family"! :)

  • Updated COVID-19 Quarantine Guidance

There have been significant changes to the Strong Schools NC toolkit that affects the quarantine procedures our staff and students must follow if they are exposed to a positive case of COVID-19. Any student or staff member who is currently quarantined due to an exposure of a positive COVID-19 case may return to school or work tomorrow, unless the close contact is a housemate. We are able to make this adjustment because our district requires masks for all students, staff, and guests.

  • JCPS to Utilize New Website for Bus Updates

Our district is launching a new portion of our website to further communicate bus delays and replacements with our families. We encourage those who have a student who utilizes our transportation to get to or from school to visit www.johnston.k12.nc.us/busdelays for updates on our school bus routes beginning Tuesday, January 18.

  • ACCESS testing for English Language Learners

North Carolina schools are required to administer ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 to all students identified as English Learners (ELs) in the spring of each year to determine their progress in learning English. Each student is tested in four areas: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. This assessment helps us monitor their English language development.

  • Updated COVID-19 Quarantine Guidance

Our district is continuing to follow the guidance and recommendations from the Johnston County Public Health Department, the CDC, and the Strong Schools NC Toolkit, and we will now adhere to a 5 day quarantine period for students or staff members who tests positive for COVID-19. This is a change from the previous 10 day quarantine time.
