Mrs. Maryam Duran

I am Maryam Duran, this is my first year at SSS very excited to be a  part of  The Spartan Family. It is my privledege to serve as the EC Coordinator/Coach.

A little bit about me, I graduated from Barton College with my Bachelors, then received my Master's Degree in Special Education from UNC Charlotte. I value myself as a life long learner and love to take any opportunity to advance my knowledge and skill set in order to be able to provide support to the staff and students at SSS.

I was born in Texas and from there have been all over. Being the child of a military family I had the opportunity to live on four continents and six states (that was a lot of different schools).  My family moved to North Carolina in 2013. My husband and I have two children; a 15 year old (she attends SSS) and a 13 year old (he attends ALMS).

When I am not teaching or planning , I enjoy spending time with my family/friends, reading, crafting, and gardening.

Carpool has been running so smoothly in the mornings.  We want to remind parents that you should not drop off students at the top of the bus driveway to walk down to school.  You can walk from your home or take them through carpool line.  We appreciate your cooperation with this as we try to keep everyone safe. We want to thank everyone who attended Heritage Day on Saturday.  We had an amazing turn out, and we can't wait to do it again next year.

We are really excited about our staff/parent basketball game for this Friday, March 11th.  We will be playing against Thanksgiving Elementary at Archer Lodge Middle School.  Our women's team of parents and teachers will be playing at 6pm.  Our men's team will be playing at 7pm.  Admission is one non-perishable food item for our Backpack Buddies program.  This is such a great opportunity to help our families in need.

Report cards went home today. Please make sure to go over these with your children, then sign and return the envelopes. Tomorrow night is Spirit Night at Culver's on Hwy 70 in Clayton, near CVS and Bojangles. Come enjoy some delicious dinner at Culver's from 5:00-8:00, and a portion of the proceeds comes back to the students here at RDE.

We hope that everyone had a restful and enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday with their families. We only have 15 days of school until our break in December and we want to encourage everyone to make these days count. There is a PTA meeting on Tuesday evening at 6:00 in the River Dell media center. We would like to encourage everyone to come out and hear about all of the great things that our PTA has been up to. Alone we can do so little, but together we can do so much!
