Mrs. Maryam Duran

I am Maryam Duran and so grateful to be part of Gator Family.  I am excited to be your (your student's) teacher. I know this is going to be a great year for all of us to grow and learn together.
I graduated from Barton College with my Bachelors and received my Master's Degree in Special Education from UNC Charlotte. I value myself as a life long learner and love to take any opportunity to advance my knowledge in ways that will help me be the best teacher for our students.

I was born in Texas and from there have been all over. Being the child of a military family I had the opportunity to live on four continents and six states (that was a lot of different schools).  My family moved to North Carolina in 2013. My husband and I have two children; Mara (14 years, 9th grade) and and JD (12 years, 7th grade).

When I am not teaching or planning awesome stuff for us to do at school, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, and gardening.

Please feel free to email me maryamduran@johnston.k12.nc.us

  • Updated Social Distancing Procedures

Information on social distancing in school settings has been recently updated by the NC Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS). Upon receiving information from the NCDHHS, we consulted with the Johnston County Public Health Department on the impact these updates will have on our school system. This ongoing collaboration continues to guide our decision-making as students return to classrooms for in-person instruction.

Carpool Reminders:You can use both lanes in our two lane road as you enter our carpool to help balance out the line. We want to make sure we do not have any cars out on Buffalo Rd. Mr. Jewett will be at the top helping to direct traffic and alternating the cars; so if you see one line is longer than the other, you can switch lanes carefully to balance out the lines.

  • Kindergarten & Spirit Night

For our kindergarten families who have students returning for face-to-face instruction, our cohort 1 students will be coming to school on Monday, October 5th and Tuesday, October 6th. Our cohort 2 students will be coming to school on Thursday, October 8th and Friday, October 9th. For families driving your students to school, our drop-off begins at 8:30am. We will be taking student temperatures before they exit the vehicle. Some of our kindergarten staff did an amazing job putting together a video of what that process is going to look like.
