Hello Benson Elementary Family and Friends,

I am extremely excited to be a member of such a great school and community.   I was given the privilege of joining the Bronco Family as an assistant principal in November 2015 and was later named principal in March 2016.   It is hard to believe that I have been at Benson Elementary for 3 years!  Again, it is an honor and a privilege to have the opportunity to serve as your principal!

My husband, Greg and I are the proud parents of two adult children and three grandchildren.  I am a native of Wilson County and a proud graduate of Hunt High School.  In 1988, I completed an Associates of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education at Wilson Technical Community College.  I received an undergraduate degree in Special Education from Shaw University in 1991.  In 2000, I completed my graduate studies at North Carolina Central University earning a master’s degree in Special Education with a concentration in Behaviorally Emotionally Disabled.

Excited about learning and leading, I returned to school in  2011 to complete my second master’s degree at North Carolina Central University in School Administration.  I have been an educator for 29 years.  I started with JCPS at Cleveland Middle School where I taught for 10 years as a self-contained, resource, and inclusion teacher.  In addition, I also had the honor and privilege to serve as an assistant principal at Meadow School for 3 years.

My tenure at Benson Elementary has given me the opportunity to work with great students, parents, staff, churches, and community members.  As we start this school year, I am excited about the possibilities that we have to learn, grow, and achieve through a variety of academic and social/emotional strategies used throughout our school.  It is my priority to ensure that all students attending Benson Elementary have a safe, secure, engaging, and challenging learning environment that will prepare students for college, career, and life.

I'm beginning my 19th year in education working for the North Carolina Public School System.  I have spent 10 years in Middle School and 8 years in High School.  My background is in Math and CTE.  I love to see students who have a heart for STEM and a love for learning.  I'm a big sports fan with football being my favorite sport.  I love the Tar Heels, Carolina Panthers, and Chicago Bears.  I have been married for 13 years to my wife Denise, who is an ESL teacher in Wake County.  We have two dogs Lucy and Molly.  We love spending time in the mountains and at the beach.  I'm happy to be serving the students and community of Benson Elementary!!

Hello! I am so excited to be serving as your Assistant Principal Intern at Benson Elementary School for the 2019-2020 school year. It is an honor to join the BES family and become a Bronco!

I am currently working to obtain my Masters of School Administration through North Carolina State University. Go Wolfpack! This will be my tenth year in education, and I have been blessed to experience working in both the elementary and middle school settings. For the last two years, I served as the Teaching and Learning Coach at McGee’s Crossroads Elementary School. Prior to that role, I taught English/Language Arts in sixth, seventh, and eighth grades. I have been married for seven years to my husband, Tim, and we have one son, Easton, who is four years old and most certainly keeps us on our toes. Our family also includes a five pound malti-poo named Daisy.

As an Assistant Principal Intern, I am committed to creating a safe, joyful learning environment where all students are held to high expectations and provided with the support needed to grow and achieve at their highest potential. As the old African proverb states, “It takes a village to raise a child”. I truly believe that a strong connection between home and school offers each student the best opportunity to be successful academically, socially, and emotionally. I look forward to partnering with you to ensure your child has the best educational experience possible at Benson Elementary School. I believe in open communication so please feel free to contact me with any celebrations or concerns you may have.

I look forward to all that we will achieve by working together. Let’s make it a great school year!
