Mrs. Takicey Dunston

Hello Benson Elementary Family and Friends,

I am extremely excited to be a member of such a great school and community.   I was given the privilege of joining the Bronco Family as an assistant principal in November 2015 and was later named principal in March 2016.   It is hard to believe that I have been at Benson Elementary for 3 years!  Again, it is an honor and a privilege to have the opportunity to serve as your principal!

My husband, Greg and I are the proud parents of two adult children and three grandchildren.  I am a native of Wilson County and a proud graduate of Hunt High School.  In 1988, I completed an Associates of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education at Wilson Technical Community College.  I received an undergraduate degree in Special Education from Shaw University in 1991.  In 2000, I completed my graduate studies at North Carolina Central University earning a master’s degree in Special Education with a concentration in Behaviorally Emotionally Disabled.

Excited about learning and leading, I returned to school in  2011 to complete my second master’s degree at North Carolina Central University in School Administration.  I have been an educator for 29 years.  I started with JCPS at Cleveland Middle School where I taught for 10 years as a self-contained, resource, and inclusion teacher.  In addition, I also had the honor and privilege to serve as an assistant principal at Meadow School for 3 years.

My tenure at Benson Elementary has given me the opportunity to work with great students, parents, staff, churches, and community members.  As we start this school year, I am excited about the possibilities that we have to learn, grow, and achieve through a variety of academic and social/emotional strategies used throughout our school.  It is my priority to ensure that all students attending Benson Elementary have a safe, secure, engaging, and challenging learning environment that will prepare students for college, career, and life.
