Ms. LaMunyon

Welcome to 3rd Grade!

Hi, I’m Ms. LaMunyon!

Teaching is an absolute passion of mine! I am so excited to work with you and your child! It’s going to be a year full of fun, learning, and lots of adventures and I can’t wait to see what the year has in store for us! The first day of school is August 23rd, 2021 and we will have a chance to meet on August 19th (times will be shared soon) during Meet the Teacher Night. Before we meet, I thought you may like to know a little bit about me...

I am a mom of two. My son, Jake, is 21 and my daughter, Lauren, is 19 and they are pretty spectacular! I spend most of my time with my family and friends, but some hobbies that I enjoy are reading, playing games, and cooking!

This will be my 8th year teaching and my 5th year at McGee's Elementary! I am especially excited to be looping up with my students from last year, meeting all of my newest students, and to be team teaching with one of my best friends and a phenominal teacher, Mrs. Thomas! I will teach Math and Science while Mrs. Thomas teaches English Language Arts and Social Studies.

Prior to becoming a mom, I served in the United States Army for four years. After the military, I decided to stay at home with my children. Once both of my children were in school, I went back to school and became a teacher. I absolutely LOVE teaching! It is my goal to instill a love for learning and reading in my students. We will be focusing on growth mindsets this year. As explained by Carol Dweck, having a growth mindset means that your child will  “believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work—brains and talent are just the starting point.” I want to help your child believe in their own abilities and that, even if something presents a struggle, they realize it isn’t something they simply cannot do, but it is something they cannot do YET and will be a goal that they will eventually accomplish.

Enjoy the website - you should be able to find all the information you need here. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. • Updated COVID-19 Quarantine Guidance

There have been significant changes to the Strong Schools NC toolkit that affects the quarantine procedures our staff and students must follow if they are exposed to a positive case of COVID-19. Any student or staff member who is currently quarantined due to an exposure of a positive COVID-19 case may return to school or work tomorrow, unless the close contact is a housemate. We are able to make this adjustment because our district requires masks for all students, staff, and guests.

  • JCPS to Utilize New Website for Bus Updates

Our district is launching a new portion of our website to further communicate bus delays and replacements with our families. We encourage those who have a student who utilizes our transportation to get to or from school to visit www.johnston.k12.nc.us/busdelays for updates on our school bus routes beginning Tuesday, January 18.

  • ACCESS testing for English Language Learners

North Carolina schools are required to administer ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 to all students identified as English Learners (ELs) in the spring of each year to determine their progress in learning English. Each student is tested in four areas: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. This assessment helps us monitor their English language development.

  • Updated COVID-19 Quarantine Guidance

Our district is continuing to follow the guidance and recommendations from the Johnston County Public Health Department, the CDC, and the Strong Schools NC Toolkit, and we will now adhere to a 5 day quarantine period for students or staff members who tests positive for COVID-19. This is a change from the previous 10 day quarantine time.
