Welcome to 2nd Grade!

Hi, I’m Ms. LaMunyon!

Teaching is an absolute passion of mine! I am so excited to work with you and your child! It’s going to be a year full of fun, learning, and lots of adventures. I can’t wait to see what the year has in store for us! The first day of school is August 17th. I look forward to meeting you all during Meet the Teacher Night. Before we meet, I thought you may like to know a little bit about me...

I am a mom of two. My son, Jake, is 20 and my daughter, Lauren, is 18 and they are pretty spectacular! I spend most of my time with my family and friends, but some hobbies that I enjoy are reading, playing games, and cooking!

This will be my 7th year teaching and my 4th year at McGee's Elementary! Prior to becoming a mom, I served in the United States Army for four years. After the military, I decided to stay at home with my children. Once both kids  were in school, I went back to school and became a teacher. I absolutely LOVE teaching!

It is my goal to instill a love for learning and reading in my students. We will be focusing on growth mindsets this year. As explained by Carol Dweck, having a growth mindset means that your child will “believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work—brains and talent are just the starting point.” I want to help your child believe in their own abilities and that, even if something presents a struggle, they realize it isn’t something they simply cannot do, but it is something they cannot do YET and will be a goal that they will eventually accomplish.
