Degrees and Certifications:
My name is Kara Stevens. I have a great love for teaching and really enjoy seeing students succeed not only academically but also grow as individuals to be the best they can be. I have been teaching for Johnston County Schools since 2011. I have taught first, second, third, and fourth grade. I am currently teaching third grade!
I live in Brogden with my husband and three children, Eli, Grey, and Harper. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, cheering on NC State, and love being involved with our church here in Johnston County. I really look forward to getting to know each and everyone of my students and parents!

There have been significant changes to the Strong Schools NC toolkit that affects the quarantine procedures our staff and students must follow if they are exposed to a positive case of COVID-19. Any student or staff member who is currently quarantined due to an exposure of a positive COVID-19 case may return to school or work tomorrow, unless the close contact is a housemate. We are able to make this adjustment because our district requires masks for all students, staff, and guests.
Our district is launching a new portion of our website to further communicate bus delays and replacements with our families. We encourage those who have a student who utilizes our transportation to get to or from school to visit www.johnston.k12.nc.us/busdelays for updates on our school bus routes beginning Tuesday, January 18.
North Carolina schools are required to administer ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 to all students identified as English Learners (ELs) in the spring of each year to determine their progress in learning English. Each student is tested in four areas: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. This assessment helps us monitor their English language development.
Our district is continuing to follow the guidance and recommendations from the Johnston County Public Health Department, the CDC, and the Strong Schools NC Toolkit, and we will now adhere to a 5 day quarantine period for students or staff members who tests positive for COVID-19. This is a change from the previous 10 day quarantine time.
