Degrees and Certifications:

Bachelor of Fine Arts: Music (Voice Concentration) Mount Olive College Associate of Applied Sciences: Medical Assisting Wayne Community College Middle Grades Education: ELA Licensure East Carolina University

Heather B. Young

This is my 10th year at Clayton Middle School! I can hardly believe it! I graduated from Mount Olive College with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music: Voice Concentration. I also graduated from Wayne Community College with an Associate in Applied Science: Medical Assisting. East Carolina University is where I obtained my teaching licensure in Middle Grades English/Language Arts.

This year I will be teaching 8th grade for the second time at CMS.  In my previous years here, I taught 6th grade (2017-2021) and before that, 7th grade (2013-2017).  I have had the honor of leading the Show Choir (Showcase of Stars) since 2014-2015 and look forward to continuing with that this year. I also serve as the Beta Club sponsor. I look forward to expanding and growing the Beta Club this year and working with the students involved. I have been privileged to serve as an Eagle Council sponsor and Box Tops for Education Coordinator. I love to see students get involved in their school and community and working with these organizations has allowed me to fulfill that passion in various ways!

I grew up in a tiny corner of Duplin County called Fountaintown, but I have lived in Wayne County for many years. I currently live in Goldsboro with my husband Jason, who works for the technology division of JCPS. We have no children and no pets. :(

In my “free” time I enjoy playing paintball, reading, singing Praise and Worship, and the privilege of driving my father-in-law's boat when we visit. I enjoy watching various sports, including football, soccer, and Quidditch. Some of my favorite teams are Washington (football), ECU (football), NCSU (basketball), LFC (soccer), and more. I enjoy Harry Potter, Star Wars, PEANUTS, various video games, classic cars, and spending time with family and friends. It seems as though I don't get enough time to do any of those things, so they bring me great joy when I have the opportunity. Music is a central part of my life as well. Do you and I share any common interests? Let me know!

I look forward to working with you this year!
