Mrs. Yeimy Del Rio
I am from Bogota, Colombia and I have worked in education since 2005. I have a Master's Degree in Teaching English to Speaker of Other Languages and a Bachelor's Degree in Education with emphasis in Spanish and English. I have taught English as a foreign language in Preschool, Elementary, College, and language centers back in my home country. This is my fourth year at Polenta and I am so thrilled to continue as the 2nd Grade Dual Language Teacher. Being an international student at Old Dominion University in Virginia and at Greensboro College and also, being an international teacher in North Carolina public school system has given me the amazing experience of meeting such a diverse community. Therefore, I am looking forward to continue gaining more cultural and learning experiences that allow me to provide and share the best teaching-learning practices to support my students, families, and colleagues. I have completed a course about Content and Language Integrated Learning and I have also attended Dual Language, Math, Science training and ESL Symposiums to gain more knowledge and strategies to implement and update practices in my classroom and with the English Language Learners.
During 2017-2018 school year, I had the great opportunity to be selected by JCPS into the Educational Leadership Practicum (ELP) which gave me many insights on how to become an effective leader when building relationships with my students and colleagues, and also different protocols to communicate projects/ strategies to my school community. This summer, I participated in the NCAE Instructional Leadership Institute which is grounded in standards-based instruction as a way to bring equity to our classrooms to provide opportunity for our students.
I am looking forward to work collaboratively with you in supporting your child in the 2nd Grade Dual Language classrooms. I thank you ahead of time for being part of the program, for your dedication and for giving me the opportunity to be part of your child's education!
