Degrees and Certifications:

BA in Middle Grades Education East Carolina University Certified in grades 6-9 Social Studies, Science and ELA.

Ms. Niena Varney

I am a transplanted yankee blooming in Benson.  I have decided that who you are is not always where you come from.  I was born and raised in Maine and moved to NC in 1995. We have lived, worked, played and ate in Benson ever since and I have loved every minute of it.

I received my GED with honors in 2002 from JCC.  I had the 3rd highest score in the state for that year.  I am proud to own that recognition.  I graduated high honors from JCC with my Associates in Arts in 2011.  My crowning moment happened in 2014 when I graduated of East Carolina University with certification areas in Language Arts, Science and Social Studies.

I have 4 sons ages 17-24.  They build a beautiful and chaotic life for me and I wouldn't have it any other way.  I love my dog, my cats, Patriot Football, reading Young Adult Fiction novels and Big Brother!

  • Happy New Year!!  I hope everyone had an amazing and peaceful break!  It was much needed and well deserved!  As we are entering into a new year, semester and quarter, I want to have some chat time with my families.  I have a ton of data that I have collected on your kids and would love to share their strengths and areas that need some work.  Please fill out this form to set up a time for us to connect!  Thanks!Connect form

  • Good Afternoon!!  I wanted to reach out and let everyone know that I am going to be working with small groups that are missing specific assignments each day from now until the end of the quarter (Dec. 18).  Students will get individual attention to ensure that they understand the expectation and complete their missing activities.  Please encourage your child to attend live meets each day, engage with me during the meet and remain in the meet the entire class period.  I know this is tough on everyone and I don't want anyone going into the holiday break with lingering negativity.  I hope to have everyone caught up to the best of their abilities before we go to break and update grades quickly so that we can all go into 2021 with a fresh new start.

Thank you all that have reached out with kind emails and texts concerning the loss of my grandmother.  Thank you also for your patience as I definitely lost a few days of productivity in order to grieve with my children and extended family.
I will be updating gradebooks every couple of stay tuned!!
