Mrs. Sue Ellen Dowler

The 2018-2019 school year will begin my 17th year as an exceptional children's teacher at Benson Elementary.  I currently teach third and fourth graders in their classrooms using the inclusion model of instruction.  With a new year, my co-teachers and I will be trying something NEW.....FLEXIBLE SEATING!  We are excited to reach our students in a new way because we ALL learn differently.

My educational background:  Graduate of Pine Forest Senior High, Cumberland County NC 1987

Graduate of UNC-Wilmington, 1991 (BA degree)

Graduate of Fayetteville State University, 1997 (MEd degree)

My professional career started in Harnett County in 1993 at Shawtown Primary School and Lillington Elementary.  I taught there for 6 years as a resource teacher before leaving the classroom to become a program specialist in 1998.  I continued to work with Harnett County Schools as an EC Program Specialist for 3 yrs, traveling to 9 schools each week, until I returned to the classroom in 2001.  That is when I joined Johnston County and Benson Elementary!

My personal background:  I am a wife and mother.  My husband, Mark, and I live in Benson with our son, Garrett. He is in kindergarten.  He keeps us busy.  We attend church locally.  Church is very important to us.  We also love to go to the pool, enjoy family trips to the beach and to the movies.  Garrett LOVES trains, so we have taken a few real train rides too....especially the POLAR EXPRESS!
