Bachelor of Science degree with a major in K-6 education and a concentration in reading

Mrs. Sowell

Hello! My name is Mrs. Sowell, I grew up in Gate City, Virginia. I am a veteran and served in the U.S. Air Force for nine years. During that time, I was an Imagery Analyst (IA) with many special duties, including teaching. With the birth of my children, I found that I loved teaching children even more. So, I set my goal to be a K-6 teacher. I graduated with highest honors from East Carolina University (ECU) with a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Elementary (K-6) Education, and a concentration in reading. I am married with two wonderful kids ages ten and six. I love reading and coffee (as long as it is sweet). In my extra time I love to watch sci-fi movies and am a HUGE fan of Marvel, the color purple and absolutely anything chocolate. I am excited to be here at Riverwood Middle and it is my greatest dream to create future achievers, leaders and changers for our community and country. We, as teachers and parents working together, have a unique opportunity to instill these qualities within the future generation and I take these responsibilities very seriously. I believe in equity learning, equality practices in the classroom, kindness, and fairness always, but most of all leading and learning by example. Learning never stops. As a teacher, I look forward to learning and growing each day with my students.
