Mrs. Michelle Moore
Retired 4th - Corinth Holders Elementary
Degrees and Certifications:
I am Debby Hickey, a retired teacher sharing a third grade position for the 2022-2023 school year with Michelle Moore.
I have an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Mental Health from Wayne Community College, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education (K-6) from Barton College, and a Master in Elementary Education from East Carolina University. I am also a National Board Certified Middle Childhood Generalist (2nd-6th grade). Additionally, I do have AIG certification.
Previously, I taught for nine years in Wayne County and 19 years in Johnston County all of which were at Princeton Elementary School. Over the course of my career I have taught 4th, 5th, 6th grade, and 7th grade summer school. I have worked at Sylvan Learning Center in Goldsboro and worked with a variety of students from beginner readers to preparing high school students for college testing.
I have two grown children Rebekah and Eric, both of whom are successfully adulting. I also share my time with my tripod rescue dog, Lt. Dan. He is an amazing creature - fearless, never gives up, can dig the deepest hole in the backyard, and run zoomies faster than seems possible with only three legs.
Unfortunately, he is a major chewer; his favorite is wood from sticks to table legs or baseboard corners and a squeaky plushie can be destroyed within minutes. In spite of that he has stolen my heart.
I am a crafter and enjoy creating something new out of string or cloth. To name a few hobbies I enjoy are crocheting, knitting, sewing, and quilting. My stress busters and creative outlets.
I am looking forward to teaching third grade and job sharing with Mrs. Moore. Most importantly, I am excited to guide students through learning more about themselves, building relationships, and increasing/improving their academic skills as we spend the next ten months together. We are going to have many great adventures in 3rd Grade during 22-23!

North Carolina schools are required to administer ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 to all students identified as English Learners (ELs) in the spring of each year to determine their progress in learning English. Each student is tested in four areas: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. This assessment helps us monitor their English language development.
The Johnston County Board of Education is now accepting applications for the Johnston County Community College Board of Trustee position. The deadline to apply for the vacancy is Friday, February 17, 2023.
