Mr. Toapanta

My full name is David Israel Toapanta Tixilema. I am 31 years old. I was born and raised in Ambato - Ecuador. I married a beautiful woman who happens to be my elementary teacher's daughter. Her name is Anita and she is a Psychologist. We have a little dog called Lucas. I like football(soccer). When I was younger, I played in a semiprofessional team, but due to the economy, I had to quit. I pursued a career in education and went to college at Universidad Tecnica de Ambato (Technical University of Ambato). I got a bachelor's degree in Science of Education. When I graduated from college, I started my master's degree program at Universidad Internacional de La Rioja - Spain, where I got my Master's degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language.

I have worked for over 7 years teaching the language to students of all ages. I arrived in the US last year through a cultural exchange programme. I worked in a middle school, teaching Math, Science, Social Studies and ELA. While I worked there, I started another master's degree program, this time in Theological Studies.

At SSS, I work with ESL students. I tried to do my best for students to enjoy the class and actually learn the language. My belief is that students learn when they enjoy class, when they get involved and participate regularly. I promote talking in the target language and use many strategies for that purpose, such as gamification, ZPD, CLT, TBLT, etc. These strategies help kids not only to learn the language but to use it in their content classes too. My desire is that kids learn the language so they can pursue their dreams in this country.
