• My classroom takes care of the needs of Exceptional Children grades 3-5.  Our schedule varies year to year depending on how many students are in each grade.  A new schedule will be made over the summer, so please check back in mid-August for details.  In the mean time, enjoy your summer!

Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Leah Callahan

I was born and raised in the Show-Me state of Missouri.  I earned my Bachelor's of Science in Elementary School Teaching with a minor in History from the University of Missouri-Columbia.  Go Tigers!  Craving adventure, I moved to Washington, D.C.. I met and fell in love with my husband, who was a Terrapin from the University of Maryland in College Park. Go Terps! We both started our first jobs in Baltimore . I taught for three years, and earned my Master's Degree in Reading from Towson State University.  Go Tigers again!  We also started our family, which grew to include two boys and two girls over the next ten years.

My husband was offered a position in Rochester, NY, so we packed up the four kids, two dogs and two cats and moved north. I was knee deep in small humans and animal fur for years while tutoring  part time at the Dyslexia Center in Rochester, NY and going back to school to be certified as an ESL (English as a Second Language) and Special Education teacher.  I taught in the city of Rochester for 4 years before coming to North Carolina.

After 14 years in the north, and all of our children graduated from high school, my husband was offered a job in Apex, NC. I took my first job in Carey and taught 6th grade ELA.  When the commute got rough, I chose to spend time with my hubby instead of the traffic. It's an answer to prayer to be out of the gray and into the sunshine.  I love to read, the beach, the mountains, and baseball. Go Cardinals! The love of teaching and children keep me going each day. A day without learning is a waste of a good day.  Go learning!
