“Spotlight on Attendance”

Dear Parents,

Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school and themselves. Start building this habit in preschool so they learn right away that going to school on time, every day is important. Good attendance will help children do well in high school, college, and at work.

Below you will find guidelines and information related to school attendance: 

• If your child is absent, please send a written note from the parent/guardian or doctor with the child’s first/last name, the reason for absence(s), date of absence(s), and teacher’s name on the day that they return to school.
• Medical notes should be provided if your child went to the doctor.
  
• All Educational Trips must be approved 5 days in advance by requesting and completing a form from our front office or data manager. Approval is signed by the principal. If the form is not completed in advance the absence(s) will be marked as unexcused.
  
• Students are expected to remain in school the entire instructional day. Please limit tardiness and early dismissals.  Excessive tardiness and early dismissals affect student learning.
• If students are tardy, a parent must sign the student in on the Tardy Log in the office. Students must give their teacher a Tardy Slip before entering the class. Do not drop your child off and leave.
  
• Excused Absences include:
  
  • Quarantine by the Health Department*
  • Death in the Immediate family*
  • Medical or Dental Appointment
  • Court or Administrative Proceedings for which the student is required to be present*
  • Religious Observance*
  • Educational Opportunity that is preapproved*
    *will require additional documentation
  • Visitation with the student’s parent or legal guardian if the parent is an active duty member of the uniformed services as defined by policy 4050, Children of Military Families, and (b) has been called to duty for, is on leave from, or has immediately returned from deployment to a combat zone or combat support posting.
• You can call the school to check on your child’s attendance and how absences have been coded. Parents also have the option to check online via the Parent Portal. If you need assistance please review this document or contact our school. 
• If your child accumulates 10 or more unexcused absences, the parent/guardian can be required to go before TIP and/or go to court. Please review TIP(Truancy Intervention Partnership) and N.C. Compulsory School Attendance Law (G.S.-115C-378) which can be found on the Johnston County School website, your child’s school website, or call the school to request the information.

 Please help us to help your child be successful in school by attending school regularly, being on time, and by limiting early dismissals.

Queridos padres,

Asistir a la escuela con regularidad ayuda a los niños a sentirse mejor acerca de la escuela y de sí mismos. Comience a desarrollar este hábito en preescolar para que aprendan de inmediato que es importante llegar a la escuela a tiempo todos los días. La buena asistencia ayudará a que a los niños les vaya bien en la escuela secundaria, la universidad y en el trabajo.

A continuación encontrará pautas e información relacionada con la asistencia escolar:

• Si su hijo está ausente, envíe una nota escrita del padre/tutor o médico con el nombre/apellido del niño, el motivo de la(s) ausencia(s), la fecha de la(s) ausencia(s) y el nombre del maestro el día que regresen. a la escuela. Se deben proporcionar notas médicas si su hijo fue al médico.
• Todos los viajes educativos deben aprobarse con 5 días de anticipación solicitando y completando un formulario de nuestra oficina principal o administrador de datos. La aprobación es firmada por el director. Si el formulario no se completa con anticipación, la(s) ausencia(s) se marcarán como injustificadas.
• Se espera que los estudiantes permanezcan en la escuela todo el día de instrucción. Por favor, limite las tardanzas y las salidas tempranas. Las tardanzas excesivas y las salidas tempranas afectan el aprendizaje de los estudiantes.
• Si los estudiantes llegan tarde, un padre debe registrar al estudiante en el Registro de Tardanzas en la oficina. Los estudiantes deben darle a su maestro un pase de tardanza antes de entrar a la clase. No deje a su hijo y se vaya.

Las ausencias justificadas incluyen:

• Enfermedad o Lesión del niño (a menos que estos sean en exceso)
• Cuarentena por parte del Departamento de Salud*
• Muerte en la familia inmediata*
• Cita médica o dental
• Procedimientos judiciales o administrativos para los cuales el estudiante debe estar presente*
• Observancia Religiosa*
• Oportunidad educativa preaprobada
• Visitas con el padre o tutor legal del estudiante si el padre es un miembro en servicio activo de los servicios uniformados como se define en la política 4050, Hijos de familias militares, y (b) ha sido llamado al servicio, está de licencia o ha regresado del despliegue a una zona de combate o puesto de apoyo de combate.

Puede llamar a la escuela para verificar la asistencia de su hijo y cómo se han codificado las ausencias. Los padres también tienen la opción de consultar en línea a través del Portal para padres. Si necesita ayuda, revise este documento o comuníquese con nuestra escuela.
Si su hijo acumula 10 o más ausencias injustificadas, se le puede solicitar al padre/tutor que se presente ante el TIP y/o que vaya a la corte. Por favor revise TIP (Asociación de Intervención de Absentismo Escolar) y la Ley de Asistencia Escolar Obligatoria de Carolina del Norte (G.S.-115C-378) que se pueden encontrar en el sitio web de la Escuela del Condado de Johnston, el sitio web de la escuela de su hijo, o llame a la escuela para solicitar la información.
