Ms. Rachel Wappel

¡Bienvenidos a Español 1 y 2!

Welcome to a wonderful year of Spanish language!

Languages ignite our world and open doors to everyone.. They are our connection and bridges to humanity.

¡Hola clases! As your profesora, I am thrilled to introduce you to the extraordinary and vibrant world of the Spanish language. We will explore all five avenues of World Language together, including the speaking, writing, reading, listening and cultural mediums of Spanish.

Señorita Wappel feels privileged to teach the Spanish Language in her second year at Clayton High School, recently moved to North Carolina from Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas. Señorita Wappel graduated from the University of Oklahoma (OU) with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Language & Literature and lived/studied abroad in Viña del Mar, Chile & Argentina for one year, where she majored in Spanish Language & Chilean Studies at the Universidad de Viña del Mar.

This is her seventh academic year to teach the Spanish language. She has taught English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) / (ESL) to native Spanish speakers as well for one additional year in Texas.

Señorita Wappel has lived and studied as a translator at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música in Lima, Perú and also in Asturias, España. She now lives locally in Clayton and loves to spice up her world by hiking, practicing yoga, learning various languages (including French!), running marathons, training with her Australian Shepherd puppy, Luna, and exploring the Appalachian mountains.

Señorita Wappel is of French/Spanish nationality and family heritage, but was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado. As her family moved to Texas growing up, she experienced enormous immersion of all Spanish speakers and their diversities in unique, cultural heritages within her higher education. Señorita Wappel's previous instructors and language professors were from México, España, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Perú, respectively.

¿Qué aprendemos? What will we learn in Spanish? A strong emphasis will be placed on your ability to compare and contrast various aspects of different Spanish speaking cultures and countries through out the world, including Latin American Spanish (North American, Caribbean, Central American, South American, African) forms and Castillian Spanish (European - Spain) forms, using vosotros/as.

We will actively engage in the target language as much as possible while learning, as activities will be written, spoken or in audio form. ¡Vamos a practicar mucho español juntos! As 21st Century language learners, we are here to change the world by understanding real world scenarios using our chosen language. We do this by engaging in personal communication, taking risks without judgement to ourselves or others, understanding words and vital phrases presented in the language, present the information to our class and speaking Spanish as often as possible!
