My name is Anthony Thorpe and I have been teaching in Johnston County for the last 11 years. I spent 6 years at Polenta Elementary and transferred to Benson Elementary in January 2015. I've lived in several different places growing up including Indianapolis IN, Savannah GA, Morehead KY, Smyrna DE, and most recently Garner NC.
I graduated from Morehead State University with my Bachelors in Health and Physical Education. I am certified to teach grades K-12 and am also certified in CPR.

Free/Reduced Lunch Applications
As you know, all students were able to have free breakfast & Lunch this school year. If you do not complete the lunch application for the current school year, your child will be required to purchase breakfast and lunch at the beginning of 2022-2023 school year until their application is approved.

What Is Red Ribbon Week? It is an ideal way for people and communities to unite and take a visible stand against drugs. Show your personal commitment to a drug-free lifestyle through the symbol of the Red Ribbon, October 23 - 31st. The mission of the Red Ribbon Campaign is to present a unified and visible commitment towards the creation of a drug-free America.

Updated School Nutrition Information for 2022-23
We hope that you and your student have already noticed some of the exciting new food and meal opportunities we are offering in our cafeterias this school year. Our new options will include more fresh produce, vegetarian options, and opportunities for students to customize their meal choice. These new offerings will be available at both breakfast and lunch.
