Ms. CathyJo Leister

Welcome to Class 204!

Hello! My name is CathyJo Leister and I am an Extended Content Standards teacher at Cleveland High School.  I started my teaching career in 2017 first as a substitute teacher in Wake County and then as an Instructional Assistant at Broughton High School. There, I taught in an Extended Content Standards Classroom for 3 years and it is where I found my passion for students who have special education needs.

I received my B.A. degree in Psychology from William Paterson University of N.J. and then completed my Special Education teacher licensure at William Peace University.

I currently live in Garner with my husband and our youngest child, Charlie.

Being a Special Education teacher is a priviledge! Each student with special needs presents a unique combination of gifts and challenges and I am truly thankful that I have the opportunity to work with the students here at Cleveland High School in the Life Skills program.

The functional life skills program at Cleveland High School is designed to meet the needs of students who have mild to moderate cognitive and physical disabilities. The course objectives are taught according to each child’s IEP that is updated annually. We will focus on the skills that students need in order to transition successfully from high school into work and life in the community. The students will be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills in the areas of daily living, social skills, occupational skills and recreation and leisure skills within the community and on field trips.

I am looking forward to a wonderful school year!  Go Rams!!
