Mr. Walter Duarte

¡Hola todos.! My name is Walter Duarte. I’m from Colombia and I am married to this wonderful woman, who keeps me up and optimistic with her incredible sense of humor and unconditional support in my pursuit of happiness. We have four wonderful children (all boys), who are already in college walking the path to their dreams. My wife and I decided to come to the US last year, sponsored by Participate Learning, with the purpose of uniting our world through global learning, expanding the minds of new generations and building global connections.

I have been a language teacher for over 30 years. In Colombia, though, I was an ESL teacher at some of the most prestigious private schools and Language Institutes in my city, Bogota. This year I am teaching Spanish 1 and Spanish for Heritage Speakers. I’m looking forward to sharing everything I know with all my students and also to learning a lot from them and their culture. I love to share with young kids and teenagers because I can get to know the way they see the world and I can understand how to better help them build their character for success. I have many different hobbies and most of them are related to sports, which is why I found my way to work on my certificate as a soccer coach in North Carolina to be the head coach of the JV soccer team. I hope to be able to teach my student-athletes all the great things soccer has to offer, from being able to control the ball to living a healthy life physically and psychologically, developing teamwork skills as well as solid and respectful relationships with others.

In addition, this year I have started a new project to create our own school radio station through a new club. The idea is to be on the air pretty soon and with a great variety of radio programs, like music, news, podcasts with class discussions and debates, announcements, and a lot more. So if you like the world of radio and would like to be part of this incredible club, reach out to me. We need a lot of hands.

I’m here for you, so if you have any questions or concerns you feel I can help you with, please do not hesitate and go ahead and contact me at or you can find me as well, at 919-934-5191 ext. 5199.

That’s all for now. See you on the radio..!!
