Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Kelley Johnson

Hello! I am Kelley Johnson, your Principal/Lead Learner. A Duplin County native and proud graduate of Wallace-Rose Hill High School, I earned my undergraduate degree from Meredith College in 2001 in International Political Science with a minor in Spanish and certification to teach grades 6-9. As a NC Teaching Fellow there, I played volleyball all 4 years, during which we won 3 straight women's college championships. My master's degree in Curriculum & Instruction was earned at NC State, and my add-on license for administration was earned at Gardner-Webb University. I am National Board certified in Adolescent Social Studies and History, completed the Distinguished Leadership in Practice Program, and have presented at many conferences throughout my almost 20 years in the education profession. I try to learn as much as I can about all of the facets of our work but have a special passion for restorative justice. I have served as a middle school Social Studies teacher, a high school Social Studies teacher in an alternative setting, a district and school level curriculum coach, an assistant principal, a secondary curriculum director, and now as a principal of this incredibly special school.

You have my personal commitment as the lead learner and principal that our team will work strategically to provide your child with a high-qualty and personalized education at the JCPS Virtual Academy! Please do not hesitate to get involved or reach out to the school to ask a question or provide feedback.

I live with my husband of 11 years, our two young children, and our 2 rescue dogs in Clayton. We love to just spend time together, have family dance parties, grow together in our faith, and go to the beach as often as possible. My favorite quote is "be the change you wish to see in the world."
