Degrees and Certifications:

BA in Biology from Harding University MA in Curriculum and Instruction for Science Education National Board Certification in Adolescent Science

Ms. Deborah Roll

I started teaching at the age of 40 as a lateral entry teacher with a degree in Biology.  I had homeschooled my 4 children for 5 years and wasn't even thinking about teaching until a 7th grade science teacher told me she was recommending me for her job when she retired at the end of the year.  I wasn't ready for how much I loved being in the classroom and that passion has not left me in the past 21 years.  I believe ALL students have a talent or skill and that they can use it to learn the way they learn best.  I am a hands on teacher who believes that my students should experience science and then we can discover why things do what they do and act the way they do.  These experiences allow students to understand concepts better.

I decided to become the best teacher I could.  It wasn't fair to expect the best from my students if I was not willing to learn like I expected them to.  My school system offered to pay for my Master's in Science Education and then I went on to get my National Board Certification so be better equipped to help my students in the classroom.  I believe we all need to be lifelong learners.  More importantly, I believe learning can be FUN!!!!
