I hope everyone has a wonderful, fun, safe Winter Break.  I wish a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year as well.  Safe travels for all that are traveling, myself included.  Please remember that now January 3rd and 4th are Teacher Work Days.  I will see you all on January 5th, ready to learn, grow and have fun.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Stevens

Teacher Information

Hello.  My name is Kimberly Stevens and I am originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  I have lived in North Carolina for the past twenty-two.  While the Panthers are a perfectly good football team, I am and have always been a Steelers fan.  I attended Slippery Rock University in Western PA and later continued my education at the University of South Carolina.  Go Gamecocks!  I will admit, I'm not a fan of hurricanes or the Hurricanes.  I prefer Penguins!

I have a degree in Special Education, as well as teaching certificates in three states.  I have been joyful married for thirty-one years and have four wonderful children of my own and have added a beautiful daughter-in-law to our family. I continue to  have a "fur" child and grandfur children.  (One dog and a bunny).

I have been a special education teacher for twenty-seven years.  I feel I can claim a much longer time as I have been working with special populations since the age of twelve.  Teaching special education is not my job, it is my calling.  My goal for your children are for them to reach success even further than they thought possible and be prepared for life to be as independent as possible after graduation.

  • ACCESS Testing for English Language Learners

North Carolina schools are required to administer ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 to all students identified as English Learners (ELs) in the spring of each year to determine their progress in learning English. Each student is tested in four areas: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. This assessment helps us monitor their English language development.

  • Updated COVID-19 Quarantine Guidance

There have been significant changes to the Strong Schools NC toolkit that affects the quarantine procedures our staff and students must follow if they are exposed to a positive case of COVID-19. Any student or staff member who is currently quarantined due to an exposure of a positive COVID-19 case may return to school or work tomorrow, unless the close contact is a housemate. We are able to make this adjustment because our district requires masks for all students, staff, and guests.

Our district is continuing to follow the guidance and recommendations from the Johnston County Public Health Department, the CDC, and the Strong Schools NC Toolkit, and we will now adhere to a 5 day quarantine period for students or staff members who tests positive for COVID-19.
