Mrs. Ragan Schmidt

Hello!  My name is Ragan Schmidt, and it is my pleasure to be your child's teacher at Archer Lodge Middle School.  This year, I am teaching 8th grade English Language Arts and English 1.  I have been in education for over 20 years.  I am a Pirate through and through.  I went to East Carolina University for both undergraduate and graduate studies.  My certification is in Middle Grades ELA and social studies, and my Masters degree is in Middle Grades Education with a concentration in English Language Arts.   I have my AIG certification, and I am a National Board certified teacher in Early Adolescent English Language Arts. 

Communication:  

Parents can expect to get a weekly update from me each Friday.  This will be sent to all parents and students as a text and email.  Any student or parent can contact me via email or phone.  I am looking forward to getting started and getting to know my students.   Please reach out if you have any questions and concerns.

    Week 1 - 

    It has been a great first week in Eng 1 and ELA.  In both classes, the students started their first units.  The students read related texts, wrote summaries, had discussions, and presented information.  The students have interactive notebooks with vocabulary words, a letter to the teacher, and notes on a reading strategy.  One great way to help students with their comprehension is to ask students to re-tell you what they have read.  So, please ask your child to tell you all about what we have been reading this week!

    The assessments will be on Friday, September 9.  The assessments will cover the texts, the vocab, and the reading skills associated with the text.  Students can prepare for their assessment by re-reading the text and practicing the review questions that will be loaded in google classroom.
