Cleveland High Girls' Flag Football Quarterback Isabella “Izzy” Sholar has been selected as one of eight finalists for the 2025 Girls National Flag Football Player of the Year Award. Before becoming a finalist, she was named the Carolina Panthers High School Flag Football Player of the Year.
She is the representative of the National Football Conference (NFC) and the Carolina Panthers for the National Player of the Year. Sholar was recently recognized at a Carolina Panthers home game in Charlotte.
This award recognizes the top high school football players in the country and reflects the Maxwell Football Club’s commitment to celebrating the next generation of talent. Presented annually to both a boys tackle football athlete and a girls flag football athlete, the award honors players who demonstrate exceptional performance, leadership, and character on and off the field. The girls' award, introduced last year through a partnership with the NFL, highlights the rapid growth and national impact of girls’ flag football while expanding opportunities for young athletes across the sport.
This nomination not only highlights Sholar's on-field performance this season but also her academic excellence and community outreach. Sholar is a multi-sport scholar-athlete who also plays softball and basketball, a member of the Youth Leadership Assembly, and represented the Cleveland community as one of only two students chosen for the Wake Electric Youth Tour in Washington, D.C.
Under Sholar's leadership, the Rams had an impressive 2025 campaign with an overall record of 10-3 and a conference record of 6-0 with a run in the 2025 playoffs. Earning a QB passer rating of 104.1, Sholar completed 97 of 164 passes for 1,117 yards with 17 touchdowns. She rushed 35 times for 167 yards and two touchdowns.
Sholar was also named the 2025 GNRA 7A All-Conference and Conference Offensive Player of the Year after winning the GNRC 7A Conference Championship and leading her team to 6-0 in conference play.
