Mrs. Emily Shelton

Hi!  My name is Mrs. Shelton.  This is my fifth year of teaching Project Lead the Way and 5th grade STEM lab, before that I was a teacher's assistant. I have two degrees from Barton College in Mass Communications and Political Science. I completed coursework at Harvard University and I earned my graduate certificate in Middle and Secondary teaching with a concentration in Career and Technical Education from Appalachian State University.  I love teaching at Selma Middle School and enjoy coming to work every day.  My goal is to equip each of my students with the tools they need to pursue college and career after high school.  Whether students want to be a mechanic or an astronaut I will encourage them and show them the path they need to follow to reach their goals.

I have been married for 9 years and have one son and one more on the way!  We live in West Smithfield and love life in Johnston County.  I enjoy reading, gardening and spending time with my family!

6th grade week 1 - We will be learn processes and procedures for the PLTW classroo and get to know each other.  We will talk about the importance of teamwork and begin to understand how valuable this skill is in the workforce.  We will also touch on documentation as that will be a key concept throughout the rest of the PLTW curriculum.
