Mr. Lance Atkinson
Before I came to teaching I spent years as a firefighter and time working with North Carolina Emergency Management. With that said I am a certified North Carolina Firefighter I & II and hold other varying certificates in emergency management and incident planning. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Economics with a Minor in History from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. During my undergraduate studies I was able to have an exhibit at the High Point History Museum based on my research and project I completed in my History of North Carolina class. Also, I was able to study abroad for international entrepreneurship at the Université catholique de Louvain in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium. I then attended North Carolina State University and earned my Master of Arts in Teaching: Secondary Social Studies Degree. Currently I am pursuing a second Masters Degree, but this time from UNC Wilmington and in History.
I am a Johnston County local and native to the area. I graduated just down the road at West Johnston High School and would not want to be teaching in any other school district. I am extremely proud to teach and call Clayton High School my home. COMETS ALL IN!

Information on social distancing in school settings has been recently updated by the NC Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS). Upon receiving information from the NCDHHS, we consulted with the Johnston County Public Health Department on the impact these updates will have on our school system. This ongoing collaboration continues to guide our decision-making as students return to classrooms for in-person instruction.
As students in grades K-5 begin returning to school, the curbside locations for free meals will now be located at each middle and high school. The curbside meal locations at our elementary schools will end on Friday, Oct. 2 and will open at the middle and high schools on Monday, Oct. 5.
The Johnston County Board of Education approved a back to school plan at a special called session on Thursday, Sept. 25.
