January Employees of the Month
Congratulations to our January Employees of the Month. This month's recipients are Mrs. Lori Tillotson (School Psychologist) and Mrs. Tammy Massengill (School Nutrition Assistant). Congratulations to these amazing staff members. We are so proud to have them in the Jaguar family.

MATHCOUNTS Team Competes in District Competition
Eleven students from NJMS competed in the district's MATHCOUNTS competition on Friday, January 20th. The students were coached by Kim Cuddington, who serves as a sixth grade math teacher. Mike Mourer also served as volunteer coach for the team. Eighth grade student, Angelina May, competed in the Countdown Round of the competition with the seventh highest score of all the participating students in the district. Two other eighth grade students placed in the top ten, including Colby Johnson and Chloe Howell, placing ninth and tenth, respectively. The following students represented NJMS at the MATHCOUNTS competition. The second place team includes eighth grade students Justin Carrillo and Angelina May and sixth grade students Aiden Ernst and Sophia Zenobi.

NJMS Speller Going to The County Spelling Bee
Please join us in congratulating 6th grader, Joseph Lindsey, who is this year's North Johnston Middle School Spelling Bee winner. Jospeh went against 5 other finalists from grade levels 6th-8th in the school wide spelling bee held on January 10th. He will represent NJMS at the county level spelling bee on February 9th. We wish him the best of luck!

School Spelling Bee Finalists
Congratulations to the the NJMS Spelling Bee Finalists. These finalists competed on January 10th in the School Wide Spelling Bee to see who will represent our school in the county wide bee. We are so proud of each of them. The Finalists were: From 6th Grade: Joseph Lindsey and Ruby Gil Ortiz. From 7th Grade: Devan Higgins and Brisa Lozano-Velasquez. And from 8th Grade: Camden Lindsey.

NJMS Toy Drive Helps Give Christmas to Locals
The North Johnston Middle School Athletics hosted a toy drive on December 14th, at the home basketball game versus Selma Middle. Spectators who brought in an unwrapped, new toy were granted free admission to the game. All toys that were brought in during the game were collected and donated to the Kenly Area Ministries and then distributed to help provide Christmas presents for families in the local areas. The school was able to donate almost 200 toys to the cause. We are so proud of our Jaguar athletes.

Hard Work Pays Off For The NJMS FFA Livestock Judging Teams
On December 1st, 8 of our FFA members traveled to Raleigh to compete in the North Carolina FFA State Livestock Judging Contest. Participating students were Caylee Johnson, Tenley Barbour, Lexi Barbour, Kaylee Pittman, Sebastian Wheeler, Peyton Ford, Cameron Casey and Colby Johnson. The team consisting of Kaylee Pittman, Peyton Ford, Tenley Barbour and Lexi Barbour placed 6th in the state and was the highest scoring middle school team. Peyton Ford was the highest scoring individual, as she placed 9th out of 329 students. Ms. Edwards and the whole Jaguar family is super proud of the hard work of all 8 of these students!

NJMS Holiday Helpers
A few of our NJMS Junior National Honor Society members had the opportunity to give back to their community and volunteer at the Kenly Fire Department's pancake breakfast on Saturday, December 3rd. NJMS Food Drive To Help Community
The NJMS FFA and National Junior Honor Society hosted the school's annual food drive the week of November 14th-18th. The entire school came together and brought in a grand total of 2,104 food items. 8th grade, which brought in 1,372 items, was the winning grade level for bringing in the most food items. The 2 organizations will be donating all food items to the Kenly Area Ministries and the Hinnant Outreach Center. These donations will then be used to help those in need in the local communities. We are so proud of our Jaguars for giving back to their community this Thanksgiving season.

NJMS Students Chosen for NC Honors Chorus
Congratulations to three NJMS Jaguar Chorus students who have been selected to be a part of the 2022 North Carolina Honors Chorus. These students put in many hours of practice and had to go through a rigorous audition process. Congratulations to Talia Bethea, Skyla Hart, and Colby Johnson for being selected. We couldn't be prouder of these talented Jaguars.

Chorus Students Prepare for Auditions
Choral Director, Lekisha Crouch and five of her chorus students, attended a workshop hosted at East Carolina University on September 17th to help prepare students for the North Carolina Honors Chorus auditions. Auditions were held on September 28th at Campbell University. We are so proud of the hard work and dedication of these students. Lady Jaguars Give Back to Their Community
On Saturday, September 24th, the North Johnston Middle School volleyball players and cheerleaders volunteered at a local car wash hosted by Girl Scout Troop #4160. All the earnings from the car wash will go back to the Angel Tree Fund at Glendale Kenly Elementary, Micro Elementary, and North Johnston Middle School. This was a great opportunity for our Lady Jaguars to give back to their community.

Eighth Grade Dance Parent Meeting on Tuesday, February 7, 2023
A parent meeting will be held for all parents or guardians who are interested in assisting with the dance on Tuesday, February 7th in the NJMS Media Center at 6:00 pm. The 8th Grade Dance will be held on Friday, March 17th from 6:00-9:00 PM in the cafetorium.
