Clayton High School Marketing Education

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am very excited to have your child in my Marketing and/or Marketing Management class this semester.  I hope to be a role model and to have a positive student-teacher relationship with your son or daughter. This is my fifth year of teaching business and marketing at Clayton High School. I received my bachelor's degree and master's degree from NC State University in business and marketing education. In addition to teaching, I am also the DECA, "An Association for Marketing Students," advisor.

My goals for this class include providing engaging, creative activities that students can relate to real life. I want to do my part in laying the foundation for a successful future for your child. Positive thinking, self-control, communication skills, goal setting and building self-esteem are additional skills that I hope to  instill and reinforce in your child. The marketing curriculum contains many topics and lessons that your child will use in other coursework and in life. Additionally, this course will give your child the opportunity to use his or creativity and to build leadership skills. I encourage all of my students to take part in our student organization, DECA . DECA membership is only $20.00 and I assure you this investment is worth every penny. Your child will have the chance to meet other students who share the same goals, attend workshops and competitive event conferences, develop leadership skills and self-confidence, learn from professionals in business and marketing entities, and create lasting memories and friendships.

This course requires students to work hard, stay on task, and to apply knowledge learned in class through the completion of projects and presentations. It is important for students to stay up to date with deadlines, as time seems to move by very quickly. Students should keep a notebook which will contain notes and study guides throughout the semester. Organization is essential for success.
