Powhatan Spirit Nights
December 5, 2013 from 4-8 pm
at McDonald's (on Business 70)!
Join us for good food and support your school!
Powhatan Spirit Nights help our school earn money simply by having us dine out and enjoy a meal without having to cook at home. The participating restaurants donate a percentage of the money that we spend directly back to the PTA. Enjoy a night out with your family at the same time that you are supporting your school!
Thanks for making this year's book fair a success! See you in the Spring!
Holiday Season Silent Partner Program at Powhatan Elementary School
We currently have 15 families in need for this holiday season. All of these families have children that go to PES.
If you would like to pick up a tags they are available starting Monday November 18th in Mrs. Nicole Thompson's office at PES. There are clothes and toy requests. If you want to donate money we would be happy to buy the items for you. Once you get a tag, Mrs Thompson will log it. Please wrap the items you buy and tape the tag on the outside so we know who to give it to. Then you can either delivery them directly to PES.
Thanks in advance for your generosity!
If you have any questions please contact Michele Melvin by email firstname.lastname@example.org
A message from the 2013 PTA President
Hello and Welcome to another year at Powhatan Elementary School
My name is Sara Mallion and I am the PTA President this year. Just a little about myself. I have two children here at Powhatan. My son, Noah is in 2nd grade and my daughter, Holly just started Kindergarten this year. I have been a stay at home mom since my son was born and I love having the time and opportunity to serve the school. We have so many wonderful people working in the PTA and I want everyone to know that nothing would be possible with out these volunteers. Our board does meet the 1st Monday of each month and any members are more than welcome to come and join in our committees. We love having new ideas and parents who really want to make a difference in their child’s school.
First, I would like to ask if you have not already joined the PTA to please do so. It’s only $6 per person and anyone can join, including grandparents, aunts & uncles. Your membership does not commit you to having to serve on the board. We would love anyone who has the time and desire to volunteer to do so but your membership does not obligate you to anything. We simply want you to have a voice in the decisions made by the PTA here at Powhatan. We also want you to know your $6 does pay for many activities and events that take place here at school such as Perk Day, JumpStart Kindergarten and the Palooza in the Spring. Always remember that your membership does make a difference.
This year we are still promoting the Food Lion MVP Classroom Rewards program. If your MVP Card at Food Lion is linked to our school then for every Food Lion brand product you purchase our school earns rewards for school supplies. Also we are continuing our Target Red Card program. If you have or are thinking of getting a Target Red Visa or Debit card and link Powhatan Elementary to that card then all purchases you make using this card gives the school 1% of the total purchase. You also receive 5% off your purchases at Target so it really is a Win-Win for everyone.
This year we are adding a 3rd program as well with the new Harris Teeter Together In Education Program. With this program if you link to our account, (Account #2272) with your VIC Card then each time you shop and buy Harris Teeter brand products we get 2% back. Now if you are like me sometimes these seem like small amounts but believe me when everyone is involved this adds up. From Target alone last year we made $520.00 from simply linking a card that you already use to our school.
This fall we are excited to start a new fundraising program with Boosterthon and believe this is a fun and exciting way for our kids to help raise money for their school and get some wonderful physical activity at the same time. We will be having our Read-A-Thon in the spring this year and hope that your kids enjoy this as much as my son has. All of our fundraising activities this year will go towards improving the technology in our classrooms.
We in the PTA strive all year to keep a good relationship between the school and parents. If you have any questions or are interested in getting more involved, please contact me at email@example.com or any of our board members. You can also check out our Facebook page: Powhatan NCPTA.
Thank you all and look forward to a great year together.
