11/12/13 - 11/15/13
Tuesday and Wednesday we are working in the computer lab on our PROBE (book report). After Wednesday, students will be on their own to complete it. Please see the information below for further information on the PROBE.
We are continuing a novel, Number the Stars. We will be working with this novel over the next couple of weeks. Please ask your child about the book and let them re-tell the story to you each night. It is a wonderful fictional story that takes place during Hitler's invasion of Denmark. The story recalls events as a family helps their Jewish neighbors escape to Sweden to avoid the Nazi soldiers that are taking Jews to camps and forcing their business to close. It is a wonderful historical fiction to teach students about this time in history.
Students are also given time each day in class to read individually. This month we have chosen a NonFiction book of interest for them to read for their book report. We will be completing a PROBE (Personal Research on Basicly Everything). Students have already completed the K-W-H part, and are actively taking notes on their subject. Students will need to have a 3-pronged folder with pockets for their book report. Rubrics will be given next week. The PROBE book report is due November 26, 2013.
It is my goal to watch Channel One every day and have students respond to 4 essential questions from the show. Channel One is a kid-friendly news report on current events and a variety of topics of interest. Parents can access this website atwww.channelone.com.
