Happy Summer Vacation! We hope everyone enjoys the upcoming break and you have lots of time to do all the fun things you want to do over the next two months…like read a good book! At RES, we place a focus on our students being excellent readers. To continue excellent reading habits this summer, we are encouraging students to participate in our RAMbunctious Readers Summer Reading Program.
Attached to the bottom of the page for your convenience is a reading record to keep track of all of your minutes. Usernames and passwords for all of our resources were sent home with your child. We are also encouraging students to use FollettShelf, a popular digital library providing access to ebooks purchased by Johnston County Schools and Riverwood Elementary. Of course, your local public library is always a wonderful source for new or favorite books.
How do you participate in the the RAMbunctious Readers Summer Reading Program? It’s easy!! Just read each day by yourself or with an adult and keep track of the number of minutes spent reading; Our school wide reading goal is 600,000 minutes; that’s only 15 minutes a day for each student!! Record how long you read each day, write down the title(s), and have a caregiver initial the record. It’s that simple. Upon the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year, return completed reading logs to Mrs. Eichelberger or to your homeroom teacher. Returning RES students who turn in completed logs to indicate participation in the Summer Reading Program will receive a Certificate of Achievement, recognition for meeting their reading goal, and have their names entered into receive prize rewards from the Fall 2013 Scholastic Book Fair.
If you have any questions, please email Mrs Eichelberger at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thanks so much, enjoy your vacation, and we’ll look forward to seeing your success in reading come August.
